When you get to the 42nd level, you don't get anything special beyond the D.H.A.R.M.A. acronym, do you? Because I can't for the life of me get past 36, and I'm tearing my hair out.

I meant the anagram from persephone.thehansofoundation.org (timeless together) to find the anagram from filenames from the hole sites.

So technically, an anagram to find an anagram to find an acronym.

I'm still lost as to what you're saying. At the persephone site we were given numbers that were decoded into "+1 timeless together." No anagrams were used to get this far. Then it turns out that vexingmodstwo had the right idea from the get go when earlier in this thread he said...

Quote:
I was thinking that "timeless together" means take the names of the three "hole" pictures (filenames" and remove the numbers (i.e. timeless?)...

Here's what's left over:

tagenqalsuegnce

Sequence is in there. Maybe the pros can give it shot?

I tried to find an anagram, but even when I included "sequence" as a word I just wasn't able to find it. It turned out that he excluded all the numbers instead of just the "date-looking numbers." Those extra letters are key in particular because they include two vowels. I'm surprised just how close we came to beating "The Experience," and I'm almost kicking myself for not going back to the filenames to try and figure out what was missing. I felt like it was just missing a few letters that might tie it together.

But anyways, that's just one anagram, and it's result is the password that leads to the game that yields the acronym. So where's the second anagram?

Now I'm wondering if the acronym is a clue to something. Again, it's

Department of
Heuristics
And
Research on
Material
Applications

One thing I find interesting is that there was a past video found at Youtube that some presume is "OOG," but we really don't know if it is or if was just planted for us to find by the ARG. There were actually a couple such videos, but I'm talking about the latter one which I discussed here...

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=240622#240622

One of the things I pointed out is a blackboard with a matrix on it, and a word underneath that matrix which read "acronymns." I guess we're supposed to just assume this is OOG per the mod's edit to the thread title, but there's hardly enough evidence to state that it is.

Anyways, moving on, what does this anagram tell us? I'm thinking the word "Department" suggests that it's just one branch of Hanso indicating there may be other departments. In this same video it's states that Hanso's ultimate goal is the evolution of mankind within the next 50 years, and stuff from the THF site suggests it's all about the advancement and/or evoluation of the human race as well. The next words seem to break DHARMA into two primary areas...

1. Heuristics
2. Research on Material Applications

Let's break these two areas down by defining them and if possibly by applying them to the ARG...

1.)Heuristics

I can buy Strings logic here...

Quote:
Okay, so because The VIK Institute is all to do with the brain, i'm going to assume that they mean Heuristics in the psychological sense... Which is like, the rules for why and how people make decisions, come to judgments and solve problems.

Looking up the word on Google, let me further define the word...

Quote:
HEURISTICS - This describes a set of rules developed to attempt to solve problems when a specific algorithm cannot be designed. For example, if the problem is "When do you eat food?", if you answer, "When I'm hungry" then you would have to eat immediately every single time you were hungry. Instead, we follow heuristics to determine when to eat by gauging our hunger level, the situation we are in, and our ability to get food. As you can imagine, heuristics are very important for solving artificial intelligence problems.

Or, from "DefineThat"...

Quote:
heuristic Definition

1. A rule of thumb, simplification, or educated guess that reduces or limits the search for solutions in domains that are difficult and poorly understood. Unlike {algorithms}, heuristics do not guarantee optimal, or even {feasible}, solutions and are often used with no theoretical guarantee. 2. {approximation algorithm}.

The very first link at google is also a good read, but a tad too long to post, as are several additional results, but I think you get the idea.

This certainly seems to apply to what the DHARMA scienists on the Lost island appear to be doing with the Losties and even in the past on their own employees. It also seems to have something to do with what happens to Jack, etc, on the season finale, but I'll stop right there so I don't have to use a spoiler.

How this relates to the Hanso site is a little less clear. It does seem to apply to Hanso's "Mental Health Appeal," including it's "flagship institute" in Vik, Iceland, and it's goal of the "complete eradication of all mental illness by the end of the century." Needless to say, with only four years it doesn't appear they'll reach this goal. This also might relate to the "Educational Outreach Program," but I can't see where this kind of research applies anywhere else.

2. Research on Material Applications

This phrase by itself is definitive so we don't need much more. The word "Material" can really refer to any tangible substance that can be fabricated or otherwise obtained. Perhaps the Shark with the DHARMA symbol was a research product wherein they applied something to it.

One thing that struck me about the word "Applications," or more accurately to the word "applied" which is another form of the same base word "apply," is from the description of the job at www.hansocareers.com that mentions the Vik institute...

Quote:
Art Therapist/Psychologist

The successful applicant will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art mental care facility using cutting edge technology in the company of the best and brightest in the field. The successful applicant will relocate to the coastal city of Vik, Iceland and work with a varied, diverse population of patients from around the world. Practical experience providing care for highly-gifted and highly unstable minds is essential, as well as fluency in Eastern European languages and a working knowledge of applied mathematics. Extensive background checks, periodic drug testing and a lifetime non-disclosure agreement are mandatory requirements of this position.

At THF, potential applications of "Material Applications" might apply to the virtually any of their listed active projects.

Well, that's all I have for now. It's time for me actually go to THF to check out this update for myself, as well as the more recent updates.

How is that even a small spoiler? Something happens to Jack in pretty much every episode. I worded it like that intentionally so that I'm not giving anything away at all. If a mod puts "something...happens to Jack, etc" in a spoiler, I'm literally going to bust up laughing.

I figured I'd get one for 42 as well... But I messed up on level 25

I take it you've sense gone back and made it to 42. At any rate, I managed to mess up on the 25th level as well, although I don't know what I did wrong. I thought I entered everything correctly, but I guess not.

So is this the "memory test" that was being held without the Director's knowledge. As a spoiler, I went ahead and typed out that entire first letter because everywhere else I've seen it I haven't been able to read it...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dr Thomas Werner Mittelwerk....................................Doctor Armand Zander, M.D., Ph.D.
The Hanso Foundation................................................Director, The Vik Institute
Orsund Klengvjel 544.................................................570 Vik, ICELAND
DK-1601 Copenhagen V Den-
mark

PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL

Dr. Mittelwerk:

It is with profound anger that I submit this complaint. I understand that The Hanso Foundation prides itself on experimentation and innovation – but what is going on in my own hospital has left me deeply confused about my own mission.

I was recruited to the directorship of the Vik Institute with a promise that I would be given the cutting edge of technology for the benefit of my patients. Instead, I find myself in a hall of mirrors.

Day in and day out, new doctors not in my staff enter and exit my hospital. Last night, twenty of my autistic savant patients were administered secret proprietary memory tests without my consult or consent by doctors whom I have never seen before – and then there is, or course, the third sub-basement.

Never in my thirty years of treating the mentally ill have I seen the like. A secret ward containing patients whose illness is unknown to the hospital's director? It is, I regret to say, absurd and offensive.

I am responsible for the lives of hundreds of patients, but I cannot, in good conscience, take that responsibility if I am hamstrung by a secret program of experimentation taking place under my own nose.

The bottom line is, I expect a full accounting of the activities taking place in my hospital. If you are unable, or unwilling to comply, I may just be forced to tender my resignation.

Regretfully yours,

Armand Zander

On a side note, when I went to THF today, as I listened to the Asian gal introduce the site I noticed that the "SO" in "HANSO" was in slightly bolder print than the "HAN." Might that be some sort of a hint with respect to the name?

How log has anyone played the simon game? I am on round 80. I don't know if I have the patience to go to 108.

EDIT: Nope, I don't have the patience.

If anyone makes it to level 108, you're my new hero. I do wonder if just maybe it does something else, but I really don't have the time or the patience.

The anagrams along with the original are how to get the answer. Yay for less confusion.

Idaho Girl from TLEC made it to 108. Nothing happens. Sad

Idaho Girl ought to be in the Vik Institute, then. That sort of patience and determination can't be healthy... Smile

Aha. Ok, I get it now. I figured the only clue was to take out the timelike number meaning "timeless" and to put them "together." I see now that the anagrams you listed make it even more clear. I skipped right over that logic when it was mentioned earlier. So he was right, it is an anagram to get an anagram to get an acronym.

We need to recruit Idaho Girl to our forum. Any suggestions?

Ha, I was just messing with you. Sorry. I'd be disappointed is something didn't happen to Jack in the season finale.

Anyway, back on topic. Did anyone know what DHARMA stood for before this god forsaken memory game? I didn't have a clue, but it might have been mentioned elsewhere.
