I was thinking of a telephone for some reason - Alexander Graham Bell didn't "really" invent the phone, Innocenzo Manzetti did - and the clues except for PLANT AND ANIMAL doesn't quite fit....

"Plant and Animal" is giving me some problems too. Hold, hook, press and lift are all part of instructions to put a call on hold, interestingly. Give me credit could almost be like a payphone asking for money-- at least its not asking you to feed it a kitten, right?

Anyway, the whole phone thing doesn't seem to fit too great with the first version of the riddle.

That was just my first reaction to seeing BOTH riddles...

The differences between the two riddles:
Saved rather than Made
"I Remember" and "For That" completely deleted
Different text before and after. "I'll give you benefit of doubt" isn't proper english.

What this means:
(1) It probably isn't an anagram of any sort.
(1b) "Hold, Hook" doesn't anagram into anything so it isn't anagram by line

(2) It isn't a cesars box or anything like that

(3) If each line means something, then the line with "THEN" and "I REMEMBER" either wasn't that important, or
(3a) each line doesn't have INDIVIDUAL significance.

(4) Saved by the bell, and all its implications in (properly) boxing, or improperly/inderectly in graveyard shifts, cheesey TV shows, etc.
SHOULD NOT lead us to a different conclusion than the clue "Made by the bell"

(5) Unless our puppynapper is not very clever, "A. Bell" would be a much, much better clue to Alexander Bell than "THE BELL"

(6) the answer is either an object our damsel in distress can get her hands on, or one or two words-- it has to show up on camera per instructions on the "about me" page.

B) He doesn't know we know what the hell is going on. Isn't he expecting a picture of whatserface? We should tell her to try emailing a picture of her with a payphone.

How about a payphone from the Bell Museum of Natural History (read- the Bell Museum of plants and animals)? Should we ask if she's near the area?

So I'm fairly stumped as well with the riddle, but just out of curiosity, has anybody figured out how we use the answer once we find it? (Forgive me if I'm being thick, but it seems like the piczo thing won't let you just use any old filename for a page. But again, maybe I'm being thick...)
