[EMAIL] 6-15 from Sam re: Wes and DITB

Dear Sam Greene,

You're doing great work on all your websites.
As I was looking over the great list of books at
http://aglauranj.org/library/bookclub.html
I noticed two errors in spelling of Gaiman; "American Gods by Neil
Gaman" and "Neverwhere by Neil Gaman". You might want to fix those,
when you have a chance.

I also noticed "Devil In The Backyard by W.J. Keeler". Is that Wes
Keeler's book? Have you ever read it? If so, what's it about?

Being the curious soul that I am, I googled it and found quite a surprise!
http://www.devilinthebackyard.com
It looks like a movie preview!
Is this what the film crew in The Barrens are up to?
Did Wes sell the rights to his book to a film company?

Sorry to be asking so many questions, but I thought you might be
interested, as you were friends with Wes........ I'm sorry for your
loss.

Thank you for your time.

Best Wishes,
Drizabella Juniorini

Drizabella,

Thanks for the heads up about the Gaiman typo on the site. I think
I'll blame lack of sleep for that one. With all of the work that
still needs to be done on the Aglaura intranet and the website
design "favor" I've been roped into doing, I barely remember what my
bed looks like.

And you're right - Devil in the Backyard was written by Wes Keeler. I
guess he thought W.J. Keeler sounded more reputable than just plain
old Wes. That's the thing about books in the cryptozoology field -
it's hard to be taken seriously by anyone except those that already
believe. Or that's what Wes told me anyway. I have a signed copy of
the book, but there's not really that much to tell you about it. Wes
wrote it when he started to promote his Pine Barrens Tour of the Weird
and it's basically just a retelling of the Jersey Devil story with a
little local flavor thrown in.

I don't know what to think about that devilinthebackyard.com site. I
don't think Wes could have really sold the rights to the book and I'm
sure he would have told me if he were making a website to promote it
(he probably would have had me put it up for him). I looked up the
whois info and it shows that someone reserved the domain this past
February, so it couldn't have been him anyway. I just hope someone
isn't trying to capitalize on Wes's life and hard work, ya know? If
they do, they'll have more than a devil in the woods to worry about!

I asked Sam about the incident at AGP reported in the Aglaura News June 14th. As well as asking her if she thought DITB the film crews were using, was related to Wes' book.

Roxanne,

Nobody around here really likes to talk about it, but there was an
accident on one of the rides last July that resulted in the death of a
little girl. That's why everyone is sort of surprised that the park
is reopening. Most places don't recover well from a tragedy like
that.

I can't believe I didn't make the connection between the DITB on the
crates and Devil in the Backyard. Someone emailed me earlier about a
website for a film - devilinthebackyard.com. I don't see how it's
possible that they're not connected. I really don't know what to
think. Wes's book is just a retelling of the Jersey Devil myth with a
little added local flavor, so I don't know how good of a guide it
would be... but it can't be a coincidence, can it? I just know one
thing - if someone is planning on stealing Wes's ideas to make a
profit they're going to have to get through me first!

My email to Sam....

I've been following the news in Aglaura and noticed your update
today. I think I might know what DTIB means. Take a look at this
website which also seems to have a clip that was posted on youtubes
that you mentioned. http://www.devilinthebackyard.com/

I was excited to see the 'online petition' posted. I've had some
contact with Sarah and I sure hope all efforts will result in stopping
this foolish plan for the library.

Looks like things are 'gearing up for the summer' around there which
no doubt has you very busy as it seems you keep many of the local
websites going. Try not to go too crazy!

I'm starting to get more and more curious about the intentions of this
DITB crew. Quite a few people have pointed out to me that DITB
probably stands for Devil in the Backyard - I don't know how I missed
it myself. If they are planning on using Wes's life to make money for
themselves, they are going to have to deal with me first. I have half
a mind to head out into the woods myself and find out what they're
doing.

At least that petition is a bit of good news. Hopefully it will help
people in town to see that the plans for the library are just plain
wrong. Every little bit helps, right? We've been discussing a few
other ideas that might help too. I'll let you know if anything pans
out.
