[WEBSITE/Puzzle Trail] www.mystes.com

Someone revealed that they found this in chat last night.

Mystai

I'd name them but they were worried about posting things that might be OOG, so if it turns out to be in game I'll give full credit. Smile

Anyway, it goes to a page with some kind of mystical looking symbol and the word Mystai at the bottom. Clicking on it leads you to the following text below the same graphic:

Quote:
Since the dawn of man, there have been those who have discovered and carefully protected "secret wisdom." Set with dual tasks, almost diametrically opposed by nature, those so gifted are charged first to eternally protect the knowledge from those who would use it wrongly, or whom innately lack the capacity to comprehend it. Their second responsibility is to share the knowledge with those who are worthy of it. So has it always been; so it will always be.

We are Mystai.

In between the quote in italics, and the "We are Mystai." there is a line of hidden text revealed with the good old select all trick.

Quote:
alluosodslaetonerylisclahtlihtefosgnhtoehtewrlrowefdhterakohwyeepeanauqederetaarbmemnectfomeh

This site name obviously relates to the mystesofavalon string generated by the handwriting puzzle.

This type of thing seems like it should be in game from looking at how the last game went. The only thing is that the whois info is another GoDaddy account.

Anyway, it's something to solve at least!

[edited to remove the SPEC since email from Dale pretty much confirms it's IG - kona]
[Now that it's officially been marked as in game, I'll give credit to drizjr for finding it. Good work! - goldranger]

WOOT!

Six, Chippy and myself have been working this.

We found the website, and got to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.mystes.com/plato.html

Which got us the text:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

olebsabaoswaevoadnasbbosevowwolethtisihnkoegdelwenolamuoywyaroklcarimse

Which got us:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

as below so above and as above so below with this knowledge alone you may work miracles.

Which got me to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.mystes.com/trismegistus

And now-- a "mini-puzzle" we're working on it.

So far we have:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

2 Chronicles Chapter 13 & 14

Can't click on anything now. Have to do a right click an "open in a new window" on my computer.

How did you "solve" that string to get you to the next page?

Here is some Whois info (we should be checking Whois on every suspected webpage):
Code:
Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)
  Domain Name: MYSTES.COM
   Created on: 27-Dec-03
   Expires on: 27-Dec-06
   Last Updated on: 27-Dec-05

  Domain servers in listed order:
   PARK13.SECURESERVER.NET
   PARK14.SECURESERVER.NET

Created right after CTW1, last updated in 2005....and not the same servers used by the other CTW2 sites. For example, here is Marzent.com:
Code:
 Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)
  Domain Name: MARZENT.COM
   Created on: 02-Jan-06
   Expires on: 03-Jan-07
   Last Updated on: 27-Mar-06

  Domain servers in listed order:
   NS3.SPIRALHUB.COM
   NS4.SPIRALHUB.COM

It's an interesting possibility.....maybe the PM is using a different server for some sites - the DevilintheDark site is on a similar server as the Mystes site (as are 4500 other sites):
Code:
Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)
  Domain Name: DEVILINTHEBACKYARD.COM
   Created on: 21-Feb-06
   Expires on: 21-Feb-07
   Last Updated on: 21-Feb-06

  Domain servers in listed order:
   PARK15.SECURESERVER.NET
   PARK16.SECURESERVER.NET

Wow, you guys found a lot since I got to work, how did you arrive at your answers?

That last page there looks like three different languages, I want to say russian, hebrew and some arabic dialect, but those are just educated guesses (though I'm pretty sure about the hebrew one).

I wish I could be on IRC at work. Sad

[edit to remove spoiler tag since it was posted unspoilered below, and spoilering all of the conversation after that would be just time consumingly ridiculous Wink - kona]

So far...

Well, we just put our heads together. I have to say that the jumbled letters in the code became somewhat "just clear" when I looked at them. As soon as I saw them, I told them what I saw. They just unscrambled themselves.

That's as honestly and truthfully as I can tell you... I have no idea-- I solved two words and told Chippy and Six where they were, and they figured out the rest, gave me the phrase and that led me to the next page, as I then knew the author of the passage.

Konamouse: Those servers are likely to be different based on registration. The servers shown are merely DNS servers, and are subject to change at any time. They can be changed by GoDaddy without even notifying the domain owner, as it's transparent to them.

Here's an explanation of how the first two bits of text were decoded:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Looking at the text when you reverse it, certain partial words jump out such as 'world', so with a bit of work, some trail and error and a whole lot of staring blankly, I noticed you can take the reversed text (makes things easier to read) and split it like so: (READ FROM BOTTOM UP)

hem
oft
ce
n
membra
atere
dequ
ana
ep
e
eywhok
areth
dfew
orl
rw
e

ngsof
ethi
lth
al

lsdo
sou
ll

This is "All souls do not easily recall the things of the other world. Few are they who keep an adequate remembrance of them." a quote from Plato, leading to http://www.mystes.com/plato.html

Here in the source, we got another of these, which comes out to: (AGAIN READ FROM BOTTOM UP)

es
miracl
k

ayw
youm
alone
wledge
o
kn
his
itht
eloww

Reading this time "As below, so above; and as above so below. With this knowledge alone you may work miracles.", a quote from Hermes Trismegistus leading us to http://www.mystes.com/trismegistus.html where we are now.

Here are the bible passages for those verses (King James version of Bible):

1 Kings 7:13-14
Quote:
13And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.

14He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.

2 Samuel 5:11
Quote:
11And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

2 Chronicles 2:13-14
Quote:
13And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,

14The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every device which shall be put to him, with thy cunning men, and with the cunning men of my lord David thy father.

Um...

Is that a policy issue, or a connectivity issue? Because if it's a connectivity issue, I can help you fix it. Wink
