This is the phone call cleaned up a bit via Adobe Audition.

Also posted is the spectral analysis view to show what i'm talking about.

Second part seemingly saying "You (Kill/Killed/Tell) (them/him)"

And just in case, a Frequency analysis to show that infact, there are two distinct (Green-First, Blue-second) time in which the man speaks apart from the background noise (Red/multicolor).

To me, the noise at the start of that audio clip sounds like glitchy blips or perhaps a synthetic duck quacking.

I adjusted equalizer settings various ways and listened to it several times. The best I can figure is this...

You have one voice at the start saying two words. It sounds to me like its saying "Mike's dead." then near the end you have two more words spoken by a different voice further away. It sort of sounds like "he's not." Then during the tail end of the last word you here a click that ends the call. This click sounds very much like a sound you might use when you close your cell phone.

Does anyone know who takes the credit for first finding this video at Monster.com? Usually people are quick to point out that they were the first to do something, but strangely, in this particular instance...

The first I heard about it was on the tailsection when a person named "jrock"posted this:
Quote:
Has anyone seen the Rachel Blake video on monster.com the url is http://content.monster.com/archives/video/

It's under the TLE section (The Lost Experience?). I ran across this today while I was going through the site after listening to the DJdan podcast. Then I did some searches on the forum and nothing came up. Everyone go check this out if you havent yet.

Later when asked how it was found (s)he said this:
Quote:
I took the poll on the front page, "who would you take job advice from..." or something to that effect. then after the results, there was a link to that page with the videos for the people in the poll (swartzenager, lakers guy, spider-man woman) and then there was one extra for rachel blake.

We were trying to figure out how someone could find it yesterday and this is what we came up with.

If you go to monster, take the celebrity poll, then click on the video archive link, it'll send you to a list of videos which doesn't include Rachel Blake. (It may have). But if you open up a video, take the url, replace the archiveid 2 with a 1, you'll get the rachel video and a lost trailer.

http://content.monster.com/pop/default.asp?archiveid=1

Something cool that Cather pointed out:

http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/video_skin/icons/lost1.gif
http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/video_skin/icons/lost2.gif
http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/video_skin/icons/lost3.gif
http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/video_skin/icons/lost4.gif
http://media.monster.com/mm/usen/content/video_skin/icons/lost5.gif

Judging by the "Post 001" and the 5 icons, i'm wondering if they are going to have 5 videos.

If anyone wants to toy with the video, you can download it through a stream program such as SDP Multimedia.

If you're having trouble downloading it, contact me in IRC and i'll give you a link to a downloadable source. I don't want to post it for copyright reasons, they're vicious!

According to the posts on the tailsection, yesterday it was linked on Monster.com under the celebrity career advice section. Then as soon as it was being discussed, it was quickly yanked from the site. My guess is that it went sometihing like this:
- The folks at Monster jumped the gun by posting the video on their site and sorely underestimated the power of ARGer "clue lust".
- Someone was poking around Monster, found the video, had a OMFG WTF!!!! moment
- Immediately posted it to his/her forum of choice
- PMs catch wind that the Blake vid has been prematurely found (yet another example that we are being watched)
- Video is yanked from Monster but not before the link is spread all over the WWW
- PMs spend the rest of the weekend scrambling for damage control

My feeling is no, not really. Rachel's icon is number 4, and number 5 looks like the homepage of the HansoCareers page on Monster. The other stuff in archiveid=1 looks like broken links and a trailer for the LOST tv show. We probably weren't expected to be poking around in that directory, but if it is stuff we shouldn't see yet, they really could just delete the files. Same goes for the Rachel link -- why delete the link but not the file?

Maybe it wasn't accidentally released.
EDIT: This is quite wrong.

While the video was released early it probably hasn't done that much harm. The hanso site has shut down now, so it doesn't predict the future, which would have been bad. My guess is that the next update (tuesday?) it would have been released.

Actually, I am almost 100% certain Monster.com is no longer affiliated with the Lost Experience -- note that in Speaker's newest post, he fails to mention HansoCareers.com as a possible clue outlet. In the comments he hints that Monster.com will not play any more part in this ARG.

I suppose we're just to pretend the video hasn't come out yet.

Wow, this was quite a controversy, eh? I still don't know how I feel about the whole thing, myself, but hey, a small stumble in the game isn't all that horrible. I'll pretend to be shocked when the video comes out, methinks.

I hope they don't ditch Monster.com in their story (especially since they seem unable to work on the fly to explain stuff away - they should hire those Vaporlofts people, who had none of the actual ARG puzzles set up when the game launched, and made them up on the fly), because Monster has had the best subtle advertising thus far.

I really hope this is not the PM's idea of damage control. So the vid got out too soon... is this not an easy thing to add into the storyline? This "speaker" may be in-game but he doesn't seem to handling that responsibility very well:
Quote:
to address the controversy would probably ruin continuity and break the fourth wall.
We'll get answers when it's SUPPOSED to be released.

I am only ranting here because I got the whole (although a little strained) TINAG feeling from the beginning of TLE but it's really diffucult to hold on to that. Don't get me wrong, I love LOST, and I flipped at the idea of a LOST ARG. I just feel a little let down right now. I mean, we know we're being monitored (hence the initial disappearence of the R.B. vid link), so this is the part where the PM's should react to us. I mean, there's a million different ways that they could take this slip up and blow our minds. All i'm saying is... here's hoping that they do!

theShaggy & Coelacanth -

I think Pandora at ITE said it best.
Quote:
I have friends who write ARGs... very complicated ones at that. Yes, it is difficult. And sure, this is a very unprecedentedly complicated one... and I give thanks to the writers for what they have done so far.

But ARGs are not static entities that are written and left to run on their own. My friends who write these things will make adjustments based on how fast the viewers find particular clues, and adjust accordingly. This sometimes means slowing things down, sometimes speeding things up. Sometimes altering the trajectory of the storyline, even, if need be.

So boo-hoo, things didn't unfold as they thought. Deal with it.

Hiring Actors/Actresses, writing script, fixing story lines for continuity...etc etc. I read in a design magazine about the TLE, how its all planned out and made already. They discussed how theres a begining a middle and an end, and for them to change things because of a screw up now will be costly Im sure. Also time consuming. I dont think they can afford to do all that now. When things are getting into speed. They can't just make up new things to cover up a mistake.

Posted by: PhD | June 18, 2006 at 08:37 PM

That's just sad, PhD. It would show that these ARG writers, paid as much as they get from huge national sponsors, don't have the same skills as other writers of ARGs that just do this for fun.

Posted by: Pandora | June 18, 2006 at 08:39 PM

I am afraid Pandora is quite correct.

I agree with her, too.

In this case, from reading the comments that weren't deleted on Speaker's blog, it seems like all people want is some sort of acknowledgement that it's there. A "odd that we found that - maybe it'll be important next week" or something. Instead, Speaker and the producers figure that they'll ignore it and it will go away.

I hope the PMs read this stuff closely and realize that we're not TOO finnicky when it comes to continuity, but ignore the players' treasure hunting devalues our part in the game.
