[QUESTION][SPEC] Just joining The Experience

(fyi, this post was split out of the Book Discussion Thread (Gary Troup's "Bad Twin"), which has since been locked -- catherwood)

Just in case these turn out to be useful I mined the book for everything that I could think of. There's A Lot so I'm breaking them down into categories.

Paul Artisan- Artzain-Besque word for Shepherd- original family name is Berasategui
Sally Handler- 48- Shannon's Step Mom from show

Is Sally maybe the Sally that posted this message on Ocean-Air (the airline in Lost, not sure if I wrote that right)...I think this is a spoiler if you're just getting into the Lost Experience like I am.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...

Sally

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.

If not who is/was she?

What does 'Artzain-Besque word for Shepherd' mean? Is it connected to Jack in some way...that's it I'm starting to blog my Lost theories/clues on the Lost Experience.

PS Any word on what's going on with the Hanso Foundation website, it says it's shut down because of hackers.

I just picked up a copy of "Turn of the Screw" ...

Also, has anyone read BF Skinners "Walden Two"? If so, could it be a foundational link to the plot? Utopian society and all of that?

I bought "The Third Policeman" just because* it appeared in the show (blink and you'll miss it), and have just finished reading it. Honestly, if The Island is not purgatory, the writers and props people are doing everything they can to tease us with little references to that theory.

I own "Walden Two" and read it decades ago. From what I can recall, it is idealistic and simplistic, but also scientific about how a better community can be formed thru social engineering. I wouldn't say they claim it is a Utopia, and they themselves admit that human nature is flawed and instinctually resistant to the greater good. Skinner was a bit twisted in his thinking, to my mind.

*and also because it appeared in "Treasure Quest", an old computer game which first introduced me to the joys of message boards, chat rooms, and online collaboration.

My personal theory is that they were in an experiment...a sociological one where they were analyzed as to how they dealt with a crisis situation and being isolated from the rest of humanity. I think something went wrong with the experiment and they're dealing with the after effects (i.e. crazy animals attacking, etc.) I like that they're getting people reading by mentioning books...all of them seem apocalyptic to me (just from reading posts and summaries on them).

Actually, that was part of an old "game" that ABC put on Oceanic-Air last summer- it led to some teasers for the second season that was coming up in the US.
And as I mentioned before, Sally Handler is NOT Shannon's stepmom. Her stepmom is Sabrina Carslyle.

As for what happend to the Hanso website- I'd suggest going back through this board to find out- as that was part of the LOST Experience and can't be accessed in real time anymore.
Welcome!
