There has been lots of discussion about the rules for this game.

Here is the direct link to the rules:

http://www.volvocars.us/terms_and_conditions-thehunt.htm

I don't see anything in the rules prohibiting sharing information or collaborating during the first part of the game. We are in the first part of the game, the part where "Potential Finalists" are determined, now.

The only restriction I see on collaboration deals with preventing the Finalist's Guest (each finalist can bring one guest at the expense, with certain limiations, of the sponsor) from assisting the Finalist during the Final Event.

If someone else see a rule prohibiting collaboration that I may have missed, please post the quote from the rules in this thread. The rules are long and I could have missed something. Otherwise, telling people not to post or share information because it violates the rules is inaccurate and misleading.

As for the requirement of a valid treasure map, interestingly the rules require that the finalist have a valid map from a dealer - but it doesn't say it has to have "your secret code." Note: that if all the maps have the same secret code, which would actually make sense, then all you need is a valid map.

What happens if someone loses their map and gets another one with a different code? The requirement is that you have a valid map, one that you can only get from a Volvo dealer. I didn't see any specific rule stating that it had to be the same map and code that you entered the game with, just a rule that you present a valid map. But, I would hate to have to rely on this as a loophole. The best practice is to get the map and use the secret code on it and put it somewhere it won't be lost. Smile

I noticed at my Volvo dealer that all the maps had different codes, and that they were random, not in sequential order.

Rules

This is a section of the official rules.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE ORIGINAL TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE OR A COPY OF THE TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE WITH A VALID VOLVO RETAILER STAMP IN ORDER TO REDEEM YOUR FINALIST PRIZE. IN THE EVENT A POTENTIAL FINALIST CANNOT SUBMIT THE ORIGINAL TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE OR A COPY OF THE TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE WITH A VALID VOLVO RETAILER STAMP, THE FINALIST WILL BE DISQUALIFED. You are not a Finalist until your submission is validated and your documents are completed.

Does your map have a Volvo retailer stamp on it?

There are eighteen different codes - some sequential numbers, some "random" number/letter combinations, some number/letter "name licence plate" combinations, and one date.

Thanks. So it seems that the best thing to do is get a map and use that code! As you can still write away for one to be mailed to you (you have until June 26th) then request one now.

As for:

Quote:

What the first sentence is saying is you have to get a map from the Volvo retailer. Either that map is an original map with a secret pirate code OR a copy of the map with the secret pirate code that has been validated by a Volvo Retailer stamp. Orginal maps don't need a validation stamp.

Maybe they are afraid they may runout of original maps and have to go to issuing copies to people? If so, they will only accept copies that have the required validation stamp.

I don't think it matters. You can renter the clues you have worked through on the map. I also think you are automatically advanced if you click the map link from your last e mail. You're going to have to re-bookmark the different locals though. If you don't remember the grid #s, I see they're posted in here.

I don't know what you mean about threads. I just see one message after another. I don't know how to reply to a certain message or how to add emoticons, since I am new to this site. I read all of the messages and reply after I read the last one. Has anyone noticed that if you put the skull over the eye card, the eyes show through the skull card? It is very helpful to see the example puzzle in How to Hunt. It shows you how the compass works. Thanks again for everyone's help with the puzzles. It is like we are sitting around a table playing cards together. After all, most people will not win the car. They will only get to play the game for the fun of it, but having fun is good, too. It gives us something to talk about.

I got an email today from Volvo that may help you. By the way, I don't have a junk mail folder in Outlook Express. Maybe MSN blocked it:
From: Patterson, Steffanie
spatte28SPLATvolvocars.com
It might be that our email landed in your junk mail folder, so check that "mailbox" as well. Also, be sure to set your Spam folder settings to accept emails from VolvoSPLATadm02.com. All hints that are emailed to participants are also available within The Hunt. If a hint is available for a particular location, it can be viewed by clicking on "Hint" within that page's top navigation.
Best Regards

In answer to this email from me:
Subject: Re: Volvo Site Feedback: Other -- Dealer Location
Can you please explain to me why I got email #1 and then #3 & #4? Is it because I had to register a second time with the dealer code? My Outlook Express is set to notify me of receipt requests, but I haven't gotten any.

How come you just decide you don't want to wait for the next clue to be emailed and just post it on your blog.

Where are you getting them from?

Hi, friendly moderator here.

It seems that we have a few people who are having some minor problems posting in this thread. While we can all apprecitate that you may have questions about this game that need to be answered, you are only going to be able to get an answer to those questions in this specific thread. Starting new threads to ask your questions (which might even have been already been answered) won't get you very far, since they will be either locked or moved back into the pile of this thread.

When you are posting your question, please make sure you hit the Post Reply button and NOT the New Topic button. Replies will be placed in this thread, at the bottom of the last page. New Topics will only show up in the News & Rumors forum, and anyone just looking at this thread will not see them. If for some reason you've found you've accidently hit the wrong button after submitting, and you are a registered member of UF, you can delete your post so long as no one else has posted after you. Just click the little "x" in the right hand corner of your post and confirm your delete. Then feel free to come back into this thread to repost.

Everyone who frequents the News & Rumors page thanks you for your cooperation.

Pirate Card & main Hunt Map

Hello,

Thanks for all the help - Just thught I would add somethign I noticed earlier (although everyone else is probably WAY ahead of me on this one!) If you drag the pirate card across the map, red letters show through the eyes. Some spell out words, and there are a few random X's and one O... any ideas?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
SEARCH - under Blue mountian, COLLECT - along short Peak inlet, LIFE - under Curl Rock and at least three X's at Slough of 3, Shrubs, One Stone and Temple Remains.. and the O is also at the Temple...

any ideas?

i dont like this game as much as the Da Vinic Eurostar one...I finished that on my own *smug*! Very Happy

I am just wondering if everybody know that if you make it to the final hunt It will have a puzzles that are very similar to the ones on the game. So if you just skip threw it and don't figure out how to do the puzzle then when you get to the final game you won't be able to figure the game out.
