[INFO] Simon Magus

grumpyboy pointed out this link in chat:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Magus (Read the entire page, it's very interesting. But for those short on time....)
Quote:
The apocryphal Acts of Peter gives a legendary tale of Simon Magus' death. Simon is performing magic for the Roman Emperor Claudius in the forum. In order to prove himself to be a god, he flies up into the air. The apostles Peter and Paul pray to God to stop his flying, and he stops mid-air and falls to his death.
Which would answer the..."A death by hand of a saint, from the heavens he fell." found on the www.mystes.com/ophiuchus page.

As an aside:
I'm putting this here just for my own understanding; and hopefully, grumpyboy doesn't mind me quoting him from chat.....
09:53 PM <grumpyboy> i think mercury --> ophiuchus --> simon is the proper order
09:54 PM <grumpyboy> probably skipped something between corax and mercury

Did we ever get pictures of the masks other than the couple of sketches in the blog?

Yes, but just the Mask of Knowledge (coincidence? Razz)

reading through the whole text from the Simon page (Voice) which can be found here http://www.sacred-texts.com/gno/gar/gar13.htm
Some things 'jumped out' for me.... not sure where this might lead but ....
Six shows up again.... and interesting that the Simon page is titled Voice....
Quote:
for he asserts that these Six Radicals emanated by pairs out of the Fire. These Six Radicals he names, 'Mind and Intelligence, Voice and Name, Reason and Thought.'

Fire is not necessarily a bad thing....
Quote:
Fire is the origin of the generation of all things generated...

there is also talk about fire which is one becoming two and such that reminded me of some of Dale's journal entries but doesn't quite seem to fit....
However..... give some thought to the names of the masks....
Quote:
Simon, after he had ransomed Helena, granted salvation unto men by means of his own Knowledge (or the Gnosis).

So if Knowledge = Gnosis or Gnostic what might the others stand for?

There is other stuff there and I strongly recommend that you read the whole text..... I'm still pondering where this is trying to lead us and have tried various things to no avail.... maybe my 'stream of consciousness' post might trigger something for one of you! Rolling Eyes

i notice that this is the first page on this trail (since corax.html) that doesn't have the phrase "Those who have both desire and knowledge shall proceed."

i'm thinking maybe this is the end of this trail and that each subsequent trail will end in a mask...

gb, good idea. We've (well, others) have made it though the trial for that particular level and at the end get the boon (the mask.)

This could be nothing, but on the simon page, if you highlight the whole page, there is text there that shows up with a blue background (using IE).

At first, I thought it was the different colors, but for instance, there is a word "thought,", and when you highlight the word, only the comma stands out .

Could be an issue with how the page is put together, but perhaps the blue-background text when highlighted says something else?

Or, it shows a different kind of image when highlighted?

[SPEC] double are the gates of fleeting dreams

[SPEC] I think, that by solving this portion of the trail, that we have given the powers of the mask of Knowledge, to whatever entity is behind Mystes. Further, this might not be a good thing if the M on the mystes page (which reminds Dale of something else) might not only stand for mystes, but also Marzent/Marzano. (There *is* that big M on the Marzent site.) That is assuming that Marzano has the same nefarious motives as his father did in CTW.
Perhaps we need to advance what I like to call the mythosphere six pages trail to find out for sure.
From mythosphere
Quote:
Stranger, dreams are intractable and hard to discern,
nor are they always fulfilled for men.
For double are the gates of fleeting dreams:
the one constructed of horn, the other of ivory;
and those that come through the one of sawn ivory,
they deceive, bearing unfulfilled words;
whereas those that come from the door
of polished horn,
they fulfill true things, when mortals see them. ||

From http://www.mystes.com/corax.html
Quote:
You have found one way to proceed,....

Have we chosen the ivory gate at mystes.com? [/SPEC]
