San Francisco events I can't even claim to be a lurker in this game, but this sounds like fun. From what I can tell, even clueless outsiders like me are welcome to attend. Is there anything you would like for me to look for or do in your place?
(Would anyone in the South Bay like to ride the train up together or car pool, depending on the actual location? PM me, as I don't read this forum for replies.)

Man, it's a shame I can't go, sounds like a pretty big event that's coming together.

Ahh the exquisite pain...I live a mere 20 miles from SF!
Although I'm not the most proficient puzzle cracker relative to the lot of you and would absolutely love to attend this could be an issue for August 12th...
1. My wife's birthday
2. I have a 1.5 y.o and a 3.5 y.o...perhaps I can release them upon any suspected (and unsuspecting) 3P that show up...they wouldn't stand a chance...

Surely your wife wouldn't care...and bring the kids along. (good luck)
(Iron Giant...best animated film ever including Toy Story-It's lovely.)

Perhaps offer to take her out for dinner somewhere nice in San Fran, if you don't have anything else organised? Y'know, a kind of 'well, there's something I'd really love to do in the day, and you can come if you'd like (or go shopping, if you'd prefer), but tonight I'm going to romance you like...' and so forth. Do a night at a hotel and thus leave the kiddies behind.
That's assuming a lot of things, but it's always a possibility.

I'm trying to convince my wife to do the event with me. We might drop off our two kids (3.3 years old) at her brothers in Pacifica or her mom's in San Rafael.

Oh Toy Story is great, that's barely a talking point.
Meet up, get the wives and kids talking about what a pair of 'games-playing-losers' you really are and leave them to go shopping with the kids while you Perplex City it up.
Women don't mind being left with the kids and a stranger in a large city on their birthdays. Trust me on this. What I don't know about women.....

This is what is technically known as 'committing suicide'.

Or at least the funniest way to request a divorce.
