They probably saw that people were reading too much into it and wasting their time so they removed it.

I've be rewatching this movie so I could see the third map people have mentioned, and I think I noticed something else about this movie also. As Mittelwerk says "that will be", just before we see the map in his hand, we are looking at the two other Lake Superior maps on the ground. However, there's two other things on the ground there as well. I can't really tell precisely what they are, but one of them (the lower, light blue object) loks like it's another map - a more traditional paper map. Can anyone make out what's on the paper map? Is this potentially our equatorial island?

Edit: Because me fail Geography and say that the maps were of Lake Ontario.
