with all the excitement, I forgot to post my interaction with shadowtalk1:

Quote:
lazaruslong567: tap tap
shadowtalk1: tap tap
lazaruslong567: what do you know about the Melungeons?
shadowtalk1: the melungeons
shadowtalk1: http://sparksgenealogy.com/melungeons.html
lazaruslong567: thank you - i have seen that reference
lazaruslong567: who are the numbered ones?
shadowtalk1: numbers
shadowtalk1: and circles
lazaruslong567: circles on circles?
shadowtalk1: yes
lazaruslong567: what numbers?
shadowtalk1: the numbers there
lazaruslong567: 3 & 7?
shadowtalk1: yes
lazaruslong567: what is the signifigance of those numbers?
shadowtalk1: they are markers
lazaruslong567: markers for what?
shadowtalk1: x

"circles on circles" was an attempt to describe the grafitti, and the numbers "3 & 7" confirm my suspicions. It was the numbered ones who drew the grafitti in Aglaura, and they were "markers" for some purpose.

Okay, I did some fisherman research.... not much stuff, but here are two fishermen-related legends....

http://www.angelfire.com/on4/zambalesforum/maria_karamot_part_2.htm
http://members.aol.com/plieadesqu/claddaugh.htm

The first one is the more interesting; a wish that, in the end, goes wrong... (its a disturbing story.)

I doubt this is what shadowtalk meant, but you never know in this game.

From what I have managed to catch, it is usually between 5pm and 9 pm Eastern Time weekdays, once as late as 10 pm on a Friday (Of course that may be just beacuse that is when I am able to get on line with AIM during the week). There are no speacial days, sometimes it will be on two or three days in a row and sometimes several days go by without a peep.

We've had earlier contacts as well - it's not just evenings. Laz and I had our longest contact around 11 a.m. pacific time less than a week ago.

Valas is right, it's best just to leave your chat program on anytime you're engaged.

Fish/wish/folktales and Fishermen/wish/folktales from Clue Search...

Quote:

When the fisherman returned home he saw the new trough. But his wife shouted at him, "'You are such a fool! Go back to the fish! Ask for a new house."
.....
When he returned, he saw a nice new cottage with a gate. But his wife shouted even louder, "You are such a fool! Go back to the fish! I do not want be an ordinary peasant, I want be a noblewoman!"
....
Several weeks later, the wife ordered her husband to appear before her and instructed him to go to the sea again, saying, "I am still subject to the rule of those above me! I want be queen of all the land!" The old man, frightened, said, "Are you crazy, old woman? You have no concept of courtly manners. Everybody will make fun of you." At these words his wife glowered with rage, slapped his face, and ordered him to obey.
....
Several weeks later the queen sent for the old fisherman and again ordered him to go to the sea--this time to ask the golden fish to become her servant and make her Empress of Land and Sea. The fisherman was so terrified of her that he did not even protest. He submissively went back to the sea.

'Well,' explained Hiysi, 'this is a magic millstone. It will give you whatever you wish for. Just make your wish and say Grind, my millstone! When you have enough and want the millstone to stop, just say Enough and have done! And it will stop. Now go!'

The blind man's daughter

Quote:

So it happened that a giant white lotus blossom was found at the mouth of a river along the coast, and the local fisherman, awed by its beauty, decided to make it a gift for their King. The King was recently widowed, and known to be in a deeply mournful mood. They hoped the bright flower would lift his spirits.
When the King first beheld the flower, his eyes lit up in wonder. He rewarded the fishermen handsomely and had the lotus installed in its own special room where he would stand for hours each day in a melancholy mood, admiring its beauty. Each night Shimchong would emerge from the blossom, and at the crack of each dawn she would merge into it again. Time and seasons passed and the King's love for the flower did not wane.
One moonlit night the King was restless, and as he wandered the palace he found himself, by and by, at the chamber of the lotus flower. He stepped inside to gaze upon the lotus in the moonlight, but what he saw was far more wonderful—a woman so beautiful it took his breath away. "Who are you?" he said. "Are you a ghost come to bewitch me or are you real?"
"It is only I," said Shimchong. "It is I who live in the giant flower." Out of modesty, she tried to hide herself, but when she turned, she found the lotus flower had vanished.

...
In the shamanic ceremonies that use the Shimchong narrative, the "patient" is supposed to be healed precisely at the climax of the story when Old Man Shim opens his eyes and sees his long-lost daughter. Shimchong is especially dear to Korean shamans because most are women, and they trace their own mythic lineage back to a folktale about a disowned princess named Pari who, like Shimchong, becomes her father's savior (the story of Princess Pari is a variant of one generally known in the west as "The Armless Maiden").

So maybe the guides trace their lineage through folktales, as the children of legendary beings.

Fisherman?

Could Fisherman also refer to Peter Fishwycke (the "father" of TAP)?

I'd say 'I don't think that is the way it was intended..' but depending on the perspective one uses, it could....

Zeus gave "birth" to Athena full grown from his own head, and she is seen as not just the goddess of war, but also of wisdom. We could stretch that analogy here...
CAROL (TAP) grew out of an idea Peter had, with access to a database or literature, of thought ideas, raw information, as large, or larger than the USA's Library of Congress. All she (it) truely lacks is the experience with which to use it. And she is learning.
