 The First Door
Directional Thinking

Please help I've figured out the clues but don't have a breeze what to do with them.

I'm taking left column of letters and translating from D-Q and Q-D left to right and just getting nonsence. Same with right column translating from D-Q and Q-D right to left and nothing.

Obviously completely wrong pls give me a clue to get me back on track. Tnx.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
all you need to know is the title of "the band below"... what does the image represent? do a search for something band-related (albums, songs, etc) and see which band comes up

ENOUGH ALREADY

FOR THOSE LOSING THEIR MINDS:

I have decided to post the URLs and explanations for all the doors.

Getting to the first door
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheFirstDoor/IWishToFindHim.htm - THIS is how you get to the first door. I know it's stupid. Something as simple as bad formatting shouldn't keep people from starting the puzzle.

Door 1 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/MyBrokenDominoes/1843.htm - This one is easy. Sure, wikipedia gives 2 years; just try them both. Or use some common sense.

Door 1 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/MyBrokenDominoes/Eggs.htm - It's braille. This one is also a no brainer. I figure most people have seen a braille letter or two. They're easy to recognize.

Door 2 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheBandBelow/TheGoldenCompass.htm - google is your friend.

Door 2 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheBandBelow/Europe.htm - If you tried "countdown", you already know, that hint makes no sense, and doesn't have any relation to the actual answer. Get lucky, google "countdown song" or something similar. "The band below" is the band that played the song.

Door 3 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/DotMatrix/BridgeOfSighs.htm - again, google is your friend.

Door 3 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/DotMatrix/Plover.htm - OK, this one pissed me off. How are you supposed to know that a 0 goes before each set of binary? There's no indication of it. Anyway, once you realize that's what you need to do, which you probably only did because you read it in a post, convert the binary, then convert that to text. It's a bird.

Door 4 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/StuckInABox/Geese.htm - The doorman codes seem to be pretty simple and clear... for now.

Door 4 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/StuckInABox/LostInTheCenterOfGlasgow.htm - Now THIS is a puzzle that makes sense. A little simple, sure, but it's clear, direct, and has a logical approach and solution to it. It also only has 1 possible solution, so you know you're right. Wish all of them were like this.

Door 5 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheModernPiano/Atbash.htm - I just googled "hebrew substitution cypher" and it was the first link.

Door 5 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheModernPiano/Palace.htm - They're obviously stars. You probably recognize cassiopeia right away, and maybe you're lucky enough to recognize the other 2. (They're Pegasus and Volans, by the way.) Put them in that order, and count the letters. My only real complaint is the number "26" at the end there. There are only 25 characters. Yeah I get it, the zero and the 26 are there to let you know it's a whole word or something... whatever.

Door 6 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/PhilosophersParadox/RoyalMile.htm - Glasgow is in Scotland. The capitol is Edinburgh. Google edinburgh castle, not much (it's under description). Edinburgh palace, right there.

Door 6 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/PhilosophersParadox/Park.htm - ...What the hell. Yeah, the symbols are wingdings, that's obvious to anybody who uses MS Word. You quickly figure out that they are the letters UQGK. And you may guess that the philosopher's paradox is referring to transmuting lead into gold, although it's never referred to as "the philosopher's paradox"; at least nowhere I've read. Apparently, if you don't know that, you're screwed. But then comes the awesome part... transmuting lead into gold means counting the letters it takes to get from L to G, from E to O, etc. Then apply that to your webdings and get Park (after a couple of tries). How you're supposed to figure that out is beyond me.

Door 7 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheSensesOfJoining/Quadraphonic.htm - Search.

Door 7 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheSensesOfJoining/TwinkleTwinkleLittleStar.htm - Another winner. I guess the black and white should lead you to believe its a piano. Or, maybe that if you plug "colourful organs", you get... nothing. Try "colourful organ", and... still nothing. "Colour organ"... nothing, BUT, there's a link... did you mean "colour organ"? Hell if I know. Why not. Look at that! a keyboard with lights. What a shot in the dark. (BTW, if you forgot to spell it all Europey, without the extra and unnecessary "o", you'll likely never find it.) Then I guess you're supposed to infer from this that the colors are notes. Which notes? Who knows. Guess the right song and you win. Yay.

Door 8 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/PurelyTheoretical/1.100.htm - The irrational number "e" minus the golden ratio. Not too bad, I guess.

Door 8 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/PurelyTheoretical/Infinity.htm - "...You can see forever." If you type that in, the game laughs at you, but kind of tells you you're on the right track. I guess since gamma is sometimes a math symbol, you're supposed to guess that the word you're looking for is "infinity". Even though gamma and infinity are completely unrelated. Oh, and it's not "YouCanSeeInfinity", which would make perfect sense; if you put that in, you dont get so much as a nod. Mind reading would sure come in handy here. If you don't have that, just keep taking shots in the dark until something sticks. How rewarding.

Door 9 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/WelcomeToTheSixth/Windgassen.htm - Search again.

Door 9 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/WelcomeToTheSixth/NearKelvingrove.htm - WOW. I don't even know where to begin. Apparently this puzzle was designed solely for expert bell ringers, and to those 8 people I say, you will die a virgin. Anyway, if you look at the rows of letters, you may, somehow, realize that there's one row in each group that has the same letters. If you anagram these letters, exhaust yourself at the dead end of "tandems", and eventually stumble upon "stedman", google "stedman bell", stumble upon "stedman triples", and find a chart, look at that, it looks similar. Follow the start of the sixth bell, and you get your URL. Seriously, there are actually people who do this? Id rather jump off the bell tower.

Door 10 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/DirectionalThinking/WestminsterQuarters.htm - Took a little more googling than the others, but findable.

Door 10 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/DirectionalThinking/FindMeByTheRiver.htm - Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner. I have no idea how the hell you're supposed to realize any of this, but it has something to do with a QWERTY keyboard. "Crossing the road" and "not from the new world" apparently refer to looking right first, then left. Whatever. Put it all together, use your telepathy, and you may come up with writing down the letters that appear to the left and right of each letter in the picture on your keyboard, and then going down in a zig-zag pattern (right to left, of course) and spelling out the message. Sure, you may come up with it, but probably not before that room full of chimps finishes typing up all of Shakespeare's stuff. Speaking of Shakespeare...

Door 11 Enter
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/ShallICompareThee/EnPassant.htm - You either know it or you don't, I guess. Or you can probably google it. I knew it.

Door 11 Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/ShallICompareThee/Winter.htm - What a waste this one was. The puzzle was actually looking promising. If you do the research, you find out that the missing symbol is Water, and boy, is it rough. And the title is the first line from Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, and finishes with "to a summer's day." So, you have summer, water, a leaf... spend a couple days trying to piece that all together, get frustrated, and find out the answer was actually "winter", which is completely unrelated to anything else you've found. This one actually had potential. Why he chose to close it with "winter" I'll never know.

Final Door
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.thefirstdoor.co.uk/TheFirstDoor/TheFinalHurdle/PeoplesPalaceAndWinterGardens.htm - Finally, another good one. Requires intuitiveness, rational thinking, logic. Put together all your other answers, weed out the ones that make no sense or are unrelated, and you have Glasgow, palace, park, near Kelvingrove, by the river, and winter. Ah, so that's why they forced winter in there. Hop on Google Maps and search for Kelvingrove, and start looking. Search for nearby parks and palaces, and there's Glasgow Green, home of the People's Palace and Winter Garden. Note that the instructions for this one said to exclude punctuation and spaces, which gives you a good heads up that you're on the right track. Congratulations! You've just wasted a good amount of your life that you can never get back.

To those wondering why I did this: Most of the people who stumbled upon this travesty didn't know what they were getting into. They had no idea the amount of time they'd waste trying to guess what this guy was thinking and typing it exactly right. If you're mad about it, tough. Don't look at it.

Sincerely,

Me
