That's a cute baby picture for his user icon. Hrm.

Update: Also, what would anyone say to him if they talked to him?

UPDATE 2: I just found this comment on another blog which discusses this AIM contact.

It seems that while he's a counterstrike player who IS sponsored by Verizon, he has no idea what this is all about.

So I would hold off on IMing DSLerator, yes?

[12:58] Jalathas: Hello?
[12:58] DSLerator: chow
[12:58] Jalathas: You're one of the people from the Retrievers of Truth site, right?
[12:59] DSLerator: yep
[12:59] Jalathas: So you know about Persephone's hacks, right?
[12:59] DSLerator: i do
[13:00] Jalathas: Pretty weird, huh?
[13:00] DSLerator: all I can say is check the ROT board in the next couple of days and you will be rewarsded
[13:00] DSLerator: rewarded
[13:00] DSLerator: sorry for the typo
[13:00] Jalathas: What do you mean?
[13:00] DSLerator: all i can say
[13:01] Jalathas: Does this have to do with the Hanso "shutdown"?
[13:01] Jalathas: Or are you completely limited
[13:01] DSLerator: all i can say
[13:01] DSLerator: sorry
[13:01] Jalathas: ok then.
[13:01] DSLerator: thanks for the hit
[13:01] Jalathas: Mind if I pass the word along to some cohorts?
[13:01] DSLerator: np
[13:01] Jalathas: Alright, thanks.
[13:01] Jalathas: I'll be watching.
[13:01] DSLerator: pleasure
[13:02] DSLerator: very cool

So, basically just keep doing what we've been doing. How... useful...

Sounds like someone either already had the name or registered it and is playing with us.

I still believe!

No, I just think they were testing the account, and were somewhat unprepared to actually deal with a person face to face.

IMO, between the Rachel Blake video leak and this, these puppetmasters are a tad less competent than the ones from ILB and The Beast.

The reason I think the IM account is real is because they watch us closely, and would have seen that we are trying to get in contact with them via AIM, thus giving them enough time to either create an account or warn us off somehow via the message board.

But, who knows? I might be wrong.

I never played either, but I see your point. For that, I think we can be a little forgiving, yes? I mean, they may be learning how to run ARGs from example, and from what I hear they're providing a far more elaborate game as far as content than others that came before (correct me on this), so heck... if any sort of video shows up, I'll be excited! *cough*

Good point.

I'll say hello next time he's on. I also have iobeSeeingYou, so we'll see if they show up.

A friend of mine had a similar conversation with DSLerator.

I think it's legit... or someone is really REALLY busy on IM.

Sure, I'm willing to be forgiving - I think TLE is great, or I wouldn't be playing it.

As far as complexity goes, other than the video this ARG has been far less complex than The Beast and ILoveBees. The Beast had at least three different running fake email accounts which would send random updates to people, a network of something like fifty fake websites with even creepier flash movies than TLE's, and puzzles that were much more difficult to solve than TLE's. Not to mention that at one point, if you entered your phone number in a certain anti-AI website, it would give you a scary telephone call. It remains my favorite ARG of all time - the first, and still the best! Look up some wikis of it, you'll see what I mean.

ILB, meanwhile, culminated in the chance to actually playtest Halo 2, not to mention a whole bunch of random payphone calls (hinted at by GPS coordinates) across the country, forcing people to cooperate and decipher bits and pieces of a message.

So, yeah, The Lost Experience has a lot of catching up to do in order to be equal to those two greats. But I have confidence that my patience with these early stumbles will be greatly rewarded when the game really takes off.

Just had a conversation with DSLerator...not much to it but I figure any interaction should be posted.

Quote:
LManer311 (10:44:01 AM): hello, are there any surprises on the ROT boards today?
DSLerator (10:44:26 AM): something might be coming today
LManer311 (10:44:42 AM): can you tell me anything about it?
DSLerator (10:45:23 AM): nope.... sorry
DSLerator (10:45:44 AM): not sure what it's gonna be yet
DSLerator (10:46:03 AM): but it's supposed to be in our hands soon
LManer311 (10:46:15 AM): can I pass the word on to my fellow truth retrievers that we should expect something today?
DSLerator (10:46:30 AM): np
DSLerator (10:46:45 AM): did you see that hanso is down
LManer311 (10:47:01 AM): yeah, I hope nothing happened to Persephone
LManer311 (10:47:06 AM): we've been worried
DSLerator (10:47:12 AM): did you see this?
DSLerator (10:47:14 AM): http://www.rachelblake.com/
LManer311 (10:47:49 AM): I believe we had found that but we're not sure exactly what to make of it
LManer311 (10:48:00 AM): had Rachel contacted ROT at any point?
DSLerator signed off at 10:50:49 AM.

I wonder why he specifically sent me to rachelblake.com ? Anyway, have at it.

Namaste.

I wonder if it will be on the broadbandstories page, where they had the little video clip of DJ Dan?

Okay, so they're delaying the update a bit - around 4 or 5 PM EST we need to check ROT and broadbandstories.com for new updates.
