Re: composer I... know that name.
[META]I SPECulate that this individual has provided some assistance to our PMs -- possibly due to the nature of this puzzle -- and is in no way a hint. Think of it as if the composer were, say, Elan Lee.[/META]

Perhaps I should stop bugging her about helping us with this puzzle, then.

I really don't think this will lead to anything, but I'm posting it because I tried it and if nothing else we can rule it out.
I noticed that although the MP3 is 36 seconds long, the actual music is 32 seconds, which can clearly be seen as two 16-second portions. I thought each section sounded like it was a guitar melody with portions delted, so I overlayed the second half on the first half and have attached the resulting MP3.
I'll try to actually look more at the pitches tomorrow.
EDIT: Just in case I'm not completely off track with this overly thing, here's the waveform of the overlay. Notice how most of the chords line up with each other, but in the second half of the song (bottom) some are just a bit off beat (syncopated) and there are extra chords as well. Perhaps we need to look at the additional and/or syncopated chords?

Re: composer And in related news, the "Composer" field now says Lyn. I'd say that's a pretty clear indication. (Although it will be fascinating to see whether they come up with an in-game explanation for the error. Maybe SPDR works for iTunes now? )

Maybe it's not morse code, but binary.
dot = 0
dash = 1
?
Of course, if the guitar notes are all the same length, does that rule out binary?

Or, how about guitar note = 1
no guitar = 0
EDIT Adding on,
If we've got a simple ragtime piece, it's usually written in 4/4 time. The syncopation that caspian points out divides into eigth notes, meaning there are 8 "beats" to a measure (or so I'll name it for now.) Binary code for the alphabet is 8 numbers (made up of 1s and 0s), each starting with an 01 (hence the syncopated rhythm in the music and how we can hear the start of each letter).
Dear Lyn - Jackie likes sheet music and could really do with a transcription of this buggery 36 seconds of lyrical amusement
So for the first measure, we've got:
ba dump ba dump ba ba dump ba = 01010010 = R
ba dump ba dump dump ba ba ba = 01011000 = H (?)

Scarpe you are a genius! Here's the solve!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Subdividing each measure into 8 beats (or 4 beats and half-beats) and placing a 1 for a guitar and 0 for no guitar we get
01010010 01001000 01011001 01010100 01001000 01001101
00000000 00000000
01001101 01000101 01010100 01001000 01001111 01000100
Using a binary to ascii converter we get: RHYTHM METHOD
Enter that code to get a new movie...

Another newbie here...
The numbers that were inserted into the comment field mean nothing, but what about the actual info that shows up when I play the song on iTunes?
I don't think anyone mentioned them yet. (Most aren't really anything new, though.)
Song title: Sample
Length: 0:36
Artist: Lyn
Album: edoc
Year: 2006
Beats per minute: 120
Composer: Jessica Price
They may mean nothing at all, but does the composer mean anything to anyone, or even the BPM?
Also, I separated the stereo tracks of the recording and inverted it, which almost completely removed the guitar. Which makes me think the piano may be important...?
Has anyone more music savvy isolated the piano and just listened to that? Other than sounding vaguely familiar, it meant nothing to me.
I keep thinking of Vincent Price...the guy associated with older horror movies...

Way more devious. And way hotter.
P.S. Caspian and Scrappy rock. To the max. Extreme.

*has been semi-lurking in this thread*
Nice job on the solve! I was still stuck on the piano, and didn't really believe about the pitch not being important. Poo.
*applauds!*

Great solve! I never would have come up with that!
Interesting video; the infamous Jenny surfaces. Or maybe I should say resurfaces? Isn't that Random College Girl #1 from the Lyrics video? It sure looks/sounds like her.

Is "genii" the plural of "genius"?
('cos, y'know, there's two of you...)
