Northern California players, we need you!!!

Have you ever felt like you're all alone in solving that unbeatable silver card? Are you getting frustrated in finding that last card to complete the set of 4? Do you despair at ever finding another live Perplexian (outside of immediate family) who won't give you a sideways look at your cards and odd questions? Hopefully we can change that.

Introductions
First, I post/track under the name Ifurita and most of you have either met me at Gamescape in San Rafael or Endgame in Oakland. I've exchanged e-mails and PMs with others, and anyone left has probably seen various posts announcing Solve & Swaps here and there. Laura Hall (lehall20) has taken on the volunteer role, with Mind Candy's blessing, to be their point person for organizing street teams in North America to get the word out and try to motivate MC to be more active out here.

Caveats
I've collected contact information on 27 Bay Area players. I know there are more, but these are the people I interact with frequently as well as other who post on the same forums that I do. I've send out an initial e-mail, very similar to this post, explaining what I'm trying to do. If you know of anyone else who should be added, just PM me your contact information and I'll add you to the list.

What I hope to accomplish
1. Demonstrate that Northern California has a strong and vibrant Perplexcity community in the hopes of attracting a Live Event or at least support of an independently organized event – after all, the New York live event only had 50 participants.
2. Improve the network of Perplexcity players in the Bay Area – in my opinion, the communal problem solving is one of the best parts of the game.
3. Make it easier to announce and coordinate Solve & Swaps at Gamescape and Endgame. We've done a couple of small events at each store and they've all been great experiences. I haven't done much with Games of Berkeley or any of the South Bay stores yet, but if you have stores out there and want help to organize an event, let me know. I'm still working towards that singular event when we get more than 10 people together at one time. I suspect Wave 4 isn't too far off in the future and it would be great to organize a massive Wave 4 kick off and solve day.
4. Expand the trading pool. I know I have a ton of extra cards, as do several others out here, and from the PXCT profiles I looked at, there are a lot of people who could use them. We need to exchange needs/wants and get everyone moving up the ladder.
5. Support stores which have been supporting Perplexcity. Both Gamescape and Endgame have nice gaming areas, wireless access for research, and budding puzzle solving communities. I hope to help them grow.

Fun Facts
I'm really just working off of Tracked Player profiles, so I know that there are ton of other Bay Area players out there, but here's a snapshot of the group I've captured (Sacramento, Stockton, North Bay, East Bay, and South Bay):

Total players found (as of 6/1Cool: 27
Total points logged: 86207
Highest rank 107
# Players ranked 1-1000 7
# Players ranked 1001-2000 10
Male/Female/Team 15/5/5 (some of the players have a single team/family sharing the same account)
# Players with active PXCT accounts: 8 (active meaning account created and cards listed)

Have fun and I hope to hear from everyone.

also, if you happen to be (or want to be) in the SF area in August, there's this coming up for you:

Quote:

New Comm Link to Earth Announced

The Academy and Mind Candy have announced plans for a celebration to inaugurate the opening of a new data connection to Earth. The event is planned for mid-August in San Francisco, in the United States. Cube hunters from around the world will be invited to attend the festivities. Academy sources have declined to comment on the nature or purpose of this new link, citing security reasons. (Full text)

So keep an eye out! Wink

Um. Cube hunters from around the world probably need some significant advance notice to book travel to something like this...

Most people have booked their holiday more than 2 months before they go.

Is that true or just speculation?

It's true, the most common time to book the summer holiday is (surprisingly) around January-February, which is why there are so many travel ads on the tele at that point. (Well, I'm talking about the UK, I don't know about the rest of the world)

Yes, but they're all peasants off to the Costa.

*Chris hangs himself at the thought

I am staying at the rather luxurious City College Norwich Halls of residence though so that makes up for it. One of its selling points is that it has carpets.

No electricity or running water though. Bring your own weasels. And a bucket.
