And there it is, the suggestion of brute forcing. Do we *have* to resort to brute forcing everything? I don't claim to understand this thingle, but we seem to be getting along fine by doing it manually.

And there it is, the suggestion that we shouldn't do our absolute best in solving a problem in favor of some retarded ideal that no one would suggest in the real world. Will this AG ever be an ARG? Razz <-- That means I'm just joking around.

Well, all deduction begins with experimental guessing, and what is that but brute forcing until a pattern develops?

But, now that we have the pattern, we can continue trying things within it. Of course, just because we've only yielded fruit with certain tings in place, doesn't mean we'll come up empty elsewise.

In other words: keep doing what we're doing, I say. Smile

Well I'll keep going anyhow. I'm in work until 5pm BST but will carry on working on it tonight. All these logs however, suggest to me that it could be a teleporter of some kind.

Despite your supposed "joking around", myself and few others are sick and tired of coming across a nice puzzle, only to find 30 minutes later that it's been done by some program. (Crypto pages, anyone?)

It is not necessarily quicker either. Look at the Polygon Marathon site, it was decided to write some complicated program to find the match, then look! Someone found it manually quicker.

It is sad to see that everything that requires decoding recently, it has only been a matter of days, in some cases, hours, that people have said "Let's brute force it! Lets ruin the enjoyment and satisfaction of a puzzle well done by getting our computers to do all the work! Hurrah!"

Some of you may enjoy it, but it is not my idea of fun, and many others think the same. I was merely making a point earlier, but if you take the piss dear, you will suffer my wrath.

No need for wrath, surely. It's easy to give an impression you don't intend on the interweb - that old lack of non-verbal communication thing. You yourself once accidentally upset me (I assume it was accidental) by asking me if my hearing was defective, but I carefully reminded myself that you probably didn't *intend* it to be hurtful, and that playful comments can sound sharper than intended in writing.

In his reply UKver2.0 matched your tone exactly ('and there it is...'), and clearly indicated that he was 'joking around'. So I'm sure he didn't intend to take the piss any more than you did.

I still defend what I said, I wasn't hurt at all by UKver2.0's comment, it angers me that he is taking a serious point so lightly, not only that, it annoys me to find a pointless jeering comment made after I have made a completly valid point.

And I found the said comment that I made to you Psyche. I didn't mean to cause offense, was meant in jest. I am sorry if it hurt you, you should of let me know in PM.

That's quite alright - misunderstandings are so easy on the web! I was quite new to the forum, and so didn't know your style well enough to know whether you were joking or not. But I figured you probably were.

Nuff said. Can we back off the soapboxes now?

Yeah. Because of course, brute forcing is so much more fun than actually attempting to work on the problem together. Y'know, collaboratively. In a group. With other people.

Oh. Wait. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Nobody gets to claim the individual glory that way and get namedropped in a blog...my bad. Please, proceed about your business.

J

P.S. Uk Ver2.0 - your point, about injecting "reality" into an ARG is entirely valid. Of course, that would also imply that you don't want to suspend disbelief in the fact that it's a game, and not in fact the real world. Which is fine. If you want to do that...but...I'm guessing that you'll be in a minority here at UnFiction. It's akin to reading ahead to the last page of a book to find out what happens, of course you can do it, but for most people, it's not that enjoyable a pastime.

That said, if you want to be the person who came out of the cinema after The Empire Strikes Back, and yelled to everyone waiting in line outside that

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Vader is Luke's father

then please, carry on. Anyone of a nervous disposition might wish to look away at this point however...pitchfork and torch-wielding angry mobs tend to be a little...unsubtle in the way that they put points across Smile (Kidding, see?)

Something about a nuclear decay RNG. I'll put it and yours on the Wiki.

Um, I know I'm just a noob, but it seems to me that the atomic clock one might have had something to do with the security breach during the heist? After all, we are looking for evidence of the phone call the day after the heist, and if someone in Cryptology was involved, then some evidence of any prep work may remain.

Could a 3d imager fool the video cameras? A locked time signal to set it off? The dedicated network to prevent what ever this is attached to from affecting other areas of the Museum security, which would have drawn undue attention?

Just throwing some ideas in the air. Or should this be in Puzzle?

I was under the impression that the security cameras were disabled, but that was waaay before my time...

Why would the people in Crypto be trying to clone the cube? if anything I would think that they're trying to decode it and figure out how to work it..

we've never actually 'seen' the cube right? I mean it doesn't have some computer output jack or anything right? Razz
