SCI FI channel showing L&O SVU

Shocked Silly

Flaming Nutter

I cannot believe that they are showing episodes of SVU!

Even if they are the worst most horrible cases, they are not Science Fiction/Fantasy by ANY stretch.

SVU is a CRIME DRAMA. I would really like to know how the programming department justified this one...

[sample conversation]

Programmer A: I know, why don't we show the bloodiest serial killer episodes from SVU?
Programmer B: Um, but they don't really count as Science Fiction/Horror Fantasy/Speculative Fantasy.
Programmer A: WHo cares? We own the episodes and have some showings left on our lease. We don't have time to show them in USA. Besides, those Geeks will never know the difference. There is that disclaimer that says that the story is not based on factual cases. Therefor it is fiction, as in Science FICTION. Get it?
Programmer B: Uh... No.

<Programmer A pitches the show to the head of the Sci Fi Network, who wouldn't know Speculative Fiction if it bit him on the A**>

CEO: Brilliant!

[/sample conversation]

Cursing Censored Foily!

And for all of us that are not on cable or in SCI-FI-channel territory(like me).

Huh? What's this about?

I'd guess L&O stood for Law & Order, but not sure about SVU.

It's a RANT Puppy. Sci-Fi served a niche market - those of us who wanted to see Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror genre. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a Crime Drama.

[More Ranting] That it was about "Serieal Killers" does not make it fit the premise of the channel. It is still a CRIME DRAMA and not Science Fiction/Fantasy/Speculative Fiction based.

Plus the "original" movies lately have mostly been real crap productions.

The woman in charge of Scifi's had her head up her rear for years now. They've also just started up a weekly wrestling show. I'll grant that it's more viable than Law & Order, but still mighty thin and really disappointing for people who enjoy *gasp* actual scifi/fantasy shows.

I'm guessing it was too much of a strain to have popular shows like Farscape. I'm so glad they've gone to Wrestling and Cop Dramas...

Neutral

At least they still have Battlestar, that's about the only good thing on there, aside from Stargate, and even then I'm waning in my desire to watch that anymore.

Why do I think that in a few years time, we'll be able to say "Do you remember when SciFi actually showed science fiction shows?" sort of like how you can say "Do you remember when MTV and VH1 actually showed music videos regularly?"

Head of Programming at Scifi: Let's see ... I could have Mansquito or Farscape. Hmm. I don't know, let's go with the crappy, calling it a B movie is an insult to B movies everywhere, Fly knockoff movie. Who wants a gorgeous, well-written TV show anyhow?

And this is why I like Canada's 'Space Channel' where we get actual Sci-Fi 90-95% of the time (along with Sci-Fi/Horror movies on Friday nights).

Yeah, I intensly dislike sci-fi, but whatever time it is, you can turn to Space and see the sci-fiiest (new word?) things

Can't argue with SVU, though, it's a great show

SVU is a great show, but it has no business being on SciFi. CSI would stand a better chance of being justified, but even that chance would be somewhat less than a snowball's chance of lasting longer than a nanosecond in hell. Simply put, it's an insult to SciFi fans, and I'm pretty sure the ratings will reflect that. But then, I'm starting to think that the SciFi channel is being run by that woman from Major League or something like that...
