[NEW] [SITE] The Valenzetti Equation

Speaker's blog directs us to a new website:

http://www.valenzettiequation.com/

It's slick and pretty, but it basically just recaps the information that was on Wikipedia, as far as I can tell. So is this official?

EDIT: Well Rachel's now endorsed it too so it must be real.

(after investigating the hosting IP, the content, and Speaker as the source, i declare it to be officially ingame -- catherwood)

Someone (I forgot who) found out long ago that these 4 domains were registered by the same entity BEFORE there was any mention of Valenzetti In-Game or elsewhere.

Valenzetti.com, Enzovalenzetti.com, Valenzettiequation.com, and thevalenzettiequation.com.

I predicted yesterday that at least one of these would become live shortly after Rachel posted from Italy. (Toot, toot. - That's me tooting my own horn.) Smile

I think there's a clue mentioned on speaker's blog. The discrepancies between GidgetGirl's reference to Valenzetti being born in Sanremo in the Italian Riveria and valenzettiequation.com's mention of him being born on the island of Sardinia.

I tried /sardinia and /sanremo on valenzettiequation.com to no avail.

Certainly seems in game.

It mentions something new about the Valenzetti Equation:

'the Equation', page 4 wrote:
Less than a year later, Vallenzetti returned with his eponymous equation -- which, reportedly, is not unlike the Drake Equation (sometimes referred to as the "Sagan Equation"), but is far greater in complexity.

Drake Equation on Wikipedia

Basicly, the Drake Equation calculates the number of planets in the galaxy that support intelligence life.

At first this may not seem very helpful, since you might not have immediatly thought that the Drake Equation would have anything to do with the lifespan of a civilization. However, one of the variables in the equation, L on Wikipedia, is the expected lifetime of a civilization.

So, if we were to make L the subject, the equation should become:

L = N / (R* × fp × ne × fl × fi × fc)

Supposedly the Valenztti Equation adds in factors such as social and political factors (e.g, nuclear war), making the equation more complex. It possibly also leaves out some of the more unknown variables of the Drake Equation as well.

Anyone care to speculate how those hieroglyphs fit in?

Chances are they're the end-product of the equation, or rather the most important perameter. As they mean "die" as in a direct order to perish, it would seem it's the part of the equation that says X + Y = DIE.

Somewhat unsettling.

This site says the author, Gary Troup, disappeared on Sep 24, 2000 on Flight 815. I'm guessing the date is a typo?

In reference to the glyphs, i was thinking that they may be a way to group the equation according to the type of extinction level event that ends life on earth. Maybe the bird-like glyph indicates animal born illnes, i.e. bird flu. The arrow could mean man made weaponry, etc. etc.

I assume so. It's correct on page five of / the equation}. Still, it could be a clue, for all we know.

I like the prospect behind the Equation, so I'm glad there's a website for it.

So am I.

The appearance of this website can only mean they are going to make the book available at some point. Probably not as a published piece you can buy, but a manuscript or something.

I'm starting to wonder if the "mistakes" on this site might actually be clues as Lucent suggests. I think we should check it out. Try adding 2000 to the end of the web address, for instance.

12:10 am PST

Well, I've tried adding words or numbers into the address, but no luck yet.

Putting stuff in front, such as "www.Enzo.valenzettiequation.com does" take you to the now closed Hanso site, however, which must mean something. If nothing else, it means this site is definitely In-Game.

Also look at these dates and see if they don't seem odd in some way.

September 22, 2000 or 22/09/2000 in the European fashion
September 24, 2004 or 24/09/2004
September 28, 2005 or 28/09/2005

When the first date (the false date of for the plane crash) is subtracted from the tru date of the plane crash as 24092004-2209200, the result is 1999996. The number looks interesting, but I can't do anything with it.

The last date I think is the one that was under Alvar Hanso's picture at the Hanso site, but I'm only guessing and I'm probably wrong about it.

Anyway, being as this newest site is about a mathematician, I think the next clue that unlocks it for us will have something to do with numbers.

To be fair you can hardly make out the IP numbers in your post.
