[PUZZLE] Mercury picture (several pictures posted)

Still unable to make heads or tails of it. I've been working on it though and shall post some of the more interesting thing's I've been able to filter. Hopefully someone will see something I haven't in one of them.

Oh, and if necessary, or requested, I'll put these up on imageshack, or some other image hosting thing.

couple of things, 1) where is the original from? 2) where was it found to lead to.. 3) what was found with it. This might help in solving it.

hmmm, quick search on germany cross referenced with Mercury and Mithras gives up the site http://www.janeraeburn.com/brigantia/deities.htm wich speaks of a couple different Mercury's:

Quote:
MERCURY CISSONIUS -
The Celtic god Cissonius who was linked to the Roman god Mercury. This deity is known within a region from Cologne, Germany, to Saintes, France.
MERCURY GEBRINIUS -
The Celtic god Gebrinius who was equated with the Roman god Mercury. He is known from an inscription on an altar found at Bonn, Germany.

....

MITHRAS -
Roman hero deity whose worship was spread throughout Celtic lands by the Legions. Mithras was the god of Truth, Victory and Light. Mithraism, the mystery religion dedicated to him, was practiced in temples called Mithraeums, which were often underground. Several Mithraeums have been found in both Gaul and Britain.

and this site that speaks of a book on Roman history, unfortunately it's out of print.
Quote:
Hensen, Andreas <H032>:
Mercurio Mithrae. Zeugnisse der Merkurverehrung im Mithraskult (211-216).
Mercurio Mithrae. Evidence of the veneration of Mercury within the cult of Mithras.

actually, im thinking its the area under Wurtzburg,
centred around Bad Mergentheim the town where the Teutonic Knights had their home base

Unfortunately Chippy, There are a lot of discrepancies with the edges, and it isn't just a matter of scale. If it is a map, could it be the shape of the Lake Of Tears near Aglaura? That would mean the box would point to a places that they might find something (a boat anchored or something on the lake bottom?)

edit

Here is my immpression (dark blue line) superimposed over Chippy's map. Note I am not exactly sure of all my edges.

I'm sure most of the words on the pic have been intentionally smudged (if they are words), but some look as tho' they could be readable, i've messed about on PS with all sorts of filters, but can't get them clear enough, here's the main 3 that are bothering me, clean, but just enlarged a little:

Cloudsleeper, something must stand out for you that I'm not noticiing. Also, I can't see "words" in the things others are mentioning for this image either.

The more I see the image, the more it reminds me of those cards used by psychiatrist... maybe we should send it to Klepsydra Smile
