[QUESTION] How does progress get saved?

I know most of you will roll your eyes at me. However know that I am a 54 year old mom who knows she may be computer illiterate. I got into most computer games after road testing all my 14 year old's games back when he started them approx. 7yrs. ago). Ever since ~ we compete a lot. Not a helicopter mom but keep my ear to the ground on them both (daughter just finished 1st. year of college without my interference once!).
Soooo... here is my question. (I really hate letting anyone know how stupid I am-guess that trip to Woodstock in 69' keeps kicking me in the a.. now and then!)
If I don't sign into the game each time I play (I just click my bookmarks) how does MY progress get saved?
I have a great sense of humor and am very thick skinned-so start the barbs now---

EDIT: Changed topic to more accurately reflect contents of thread. Carry on! --Phaedra

No worries. I am not a computer wiz (so anyone can correct me) but I believe when you enter in the correct answer on the map that sends a cookie to your computer that "saves" the spot on the map. As far as the screens where you enter coordinates.. I would imagine that also sends a cookie but I really don't think Volvo is looking at our progress. They will only concern themselves with our start and end times on the final puzzle. So just worry about getting to the 12th and be as quick as you can once you start that last puzzle. I am guessing our individual "stop watches" will be started when we submit the final map clue and will end when we enter in our final answer. At least that is my best guess... thoughts anyone?

I hope that helps j15bell

Your pseudonym is well-chosen. Unfortunately for you, we have IP traces.

I thought I'd made myself clear that we don't tolerate groundless personal attacks.

They don't save your progress to this point is the simple answer, other than having your contact info at the start. Everything up to this point was mostly just for fun...all you really need is the correct web address to start the semi-final game at and the email that you're going to get on the 11th.

As for everyone theories about saving start and end times to make it fair, that's clearly not the case, and would be easily circumvented if it was. They only care about the final submission time, else they would actually violate the written rules of the contest. They may, however, use a clock that ticks with large units...e.g., everything received during the same clock hour might be considered a simultaneous entry. Or half-hour. Or four-hour period. Or even the entire day. Which might make it more of a sweepstakes than a contest. We'll have to wait and see on that.

In any case, everyone has the same start time for the region. We get the email sometime on July 11, the day BEFORE the web page gets unlocked at 2pm EDT/11am PST.

finally woke up!! after the midnight showing and really couldn't get to sleep after the surprise ending-stayed on the computer all morning long. went to sleep 6a.m. est.

Phaedra-thanks for moderating on the know and now.

nusa-thanks for the info

anon_cowardlytype guest-you may be a member signing on as a guest to say what you did. However I meant "know that I am 54"-as in just to let you know. Even so-I have seen more than 80-85 percent of emails and posts with misspellings-lots of folks just do not have the work ethic to take the time and try. hopefully we are here for the fun and not the language arts lesson. who cares Question

just wanted to clear that up for "anao_cowardlytype (guest?)

no harm know fowl (oops) no harm no foul.

thanks goes out to all who are generous to share. I guess now it is apparent to me that it dosen't matter how fast we solve the clues. anyone with an ounce of game will figure things out by the 11th. after that the real players will stand up.

many times the game will send an email to the participants who were in the top 10 or 1%. like the DaVinci code google game and eurostar's game.

if you make that elite bunch-let us know.

we have gotten to know each other and it would be fun to know who of you did really well.

thanks for reading.
