Don't Open The Box, Josh

This isn't mine, not sure if this is the right location - if not move it where ya want it. This morning I got an IM out of the blue from someone named Ike who sent this link http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16467 and said he got an email with names and instructions to tell Josh not to open the box. He wanted me to tell Josh, so I figured out how to go about that, did it, left the comment on the blog and then got email from Josh who wanted to know what's up. I don't have any idea but the IM guy keeps insisting I MUST post this here because he thinks some of you are names on the list and you have to keep Josh from opening the box. Josh said the box needed a key. IM person insisted I have to post it here and tell you to make sure he doesn't open it. So that's done.

Okay. That's the gist of it...I'm out.

Trying again are we? Because the first go-round went off so well Razz

I am not locking this right now, but just be aware that admin is keeping an eye on this thread and any suspected tampering by the idiot PMs behind this game will be dealt with.

I don't think, (and no, I don't have anything to do with the PMs Razz) that just because an ARG flagrantly flaunts the rules of UF, it necciserially needs be a bad ARG. Despite the somewhat dubious launch, and the inference of an inexperienced PM, it might, by fluke if nothing else, be quite good. They certainly need a good telling off, but why the wholesale dismissal of something into which the PMs have (hopefully - or there really is no excuse) put a lot of time and energy.

OK, I don't really think that it'd be terribly impressive, but, perhaps, fun.

I commend the PMs on their persistance, if nothing else (but, PMs, please don't let your characters know about UF - I know it kind of imposes a blind spot on them, but it helps UF remain "meta").

Having said which, I think I shall try to kill off all the characters as quickly as possible Twisted Evil

OPEN THE BOX, JOSH! Use welding gear/a pneumatic drill/high-grade military munitions if you have to!

You are right Paulzilla. I was just having a little fun with my earlier post (call it the piling-on effect). This could be a decent ARG. One can never tell. IMHO, the "launch" combined with the less than stellar blog entries with seemingly no interesting information contained therein makes me think this is not going to amount to much. But I've been wrong before...and I'll be the first to admit it if this thing takes off.

Believe it or not, i also say cut them some slack. This forum is one of the few places where I remember the cliché "If you don't have anything nice to say, why bother saying it at all?" actually rearing it's flowery head from time to time.

Don't get me wrong, I love to call people idiots...but I also love that ol' "In dubio pro reo" thing. And if we except people to respect the rules of this board, I think respect should be mutual. Now, as far as anyone can tell this thread is not in violation of anything (except good taste?) and it's good to know the mods are making sure that it stays that way. Maybe the PM has learned his lesson? He/she/they/it deserves another chance...

Also, I don't want to see this locked beacuse I just have to know where the combination of my favourite behavioral scientist and this launch will take us!

(And it's gotta be said: I just love this forum! It's hilarious, exhilarating, educating and an alternate reality in itself!)

It's not mine

I used a particular email to register here. I had yahoo messenger, a totally different email account open this morning to catch replies on the Ramsey forum where behavioral science has a more relevant audience. Someone popped up on there saying I need your help. I ignored it for 15 minutes before it dawned on me nobody has that acct. I have nobody on the messenger list. It struck me curious so I replied. They went on to explain the deal about Josh. I caught on pretty shortly, soon as I get a cryptic instruction to tell Josh not to open the box. I actually enjoyed getting tagged....it would be a first. So I rolled with it and all went well until IM guy started insisting I come back here to the warm happy place and post it. I declined doing this for the duration. I offered to post it on IU, least they've been friendly - even if it's slow. He wouldn't hear of it, he wanted it to be here. He said - as incentive - he thought some of the people on the list he got were people on here.

THE ONLY REASON I gave in was for not wanting to throw a wrench into somebody's game - so I posted it, and of course, get all the pissy bs from the posters and pm (that's private message this time), and quit fucking with it. Yall didn't do me the favor here, and there's little chance a 17 yo kid is gonna seriously be that high above me I need to grovel to join the booty club. There's good info here, no reason I can't lurk like I've been doing. As for esteed (think that was it) I appreciate your message regardless (for you rude ones, it was an apology and a welcome) rest of ya can bite me.

So........to settle your kneejerk suspicions of new people, if you prefer I'll be glad to come back a final time and post the entire IM exchange and yall can spend some time counting how many times I refused to post it here and explained exactly why. Again, the only reason the thread was started was because I still recognized it was somebody's game, they tagged me and I didn't want to wrench it for them. That yall are so cliquish about it and want to lock threads and dog the kid makes me question why it would be desired to enlist people from here, but hey - he or she has their reasons....I did what I was asked to do and that's where it stops. I can still follow along without having to put up with the anal bs from people who insist they're warm friendly people but who get that bent out of shape and rude when someone tries to contribute - insult your mamma....I got better shit to do. I personally don't care if you lock it up or not. It's not mine. If the kid's that hard up to bust it out here, that's his business.

For the record, considering the previous deal with the Message Center, the one mentioned on ARGN recently, I did use the YIM email to send a reply. I got a reply back, it didn't appear to amount to anything, so I blew it off. I couldn't help make the connection....and remembering how some were assuming that game was abandoned. Maybe it wasn't.

And it's still a GAME. Grow up.

C'mon Red Queen, I don't know about the PMs, but the "pissy BS" here wasn't directed at you this time (I guess)...stay with us, pretty please!

definitely not at you, RedQueen. There was a previous launch attempt earlier that was not very original and any Admin admonishment is directed at the PM of the game.

I have no trouble with people who want to play a game. What I do have trouble with is a PM who doesn't seem to want to play by the rules of the forum, which are expressly laid out in the TOS and Rules for Puppetmasters. This PM also seems to be cowardly hiding behind other people, making them do his/her dirty work, and thus I had no recourse but to post a public warning.

This is not about warm fuzzies or any of that crap. We welcome anyone who comes here and wants to contribute to the community in a positive way. Circumventing the rules when it was already made clear that this tactic was not appreciated and would not be tolerated is just bad form and there is no reason for me to make nice about it.

LET ME BE EXPLICIT. This is not about Red Queen or anyone who wants to play a game. This is about people breaking the TOS, registering multiple accounts, and then lying to the adminstration about what they are doing. And again I say, we are watching and if it continues we will do whatever it takes to protect our players and our forum from this kind of obnoxious manipulation.

Red Queen, I'm sorry if my comments to the PMs felt either like they were insulting or patronising, or directed at you. Neither were the intention; it's clear to me that you have little involvement with this, and I'm sorry if the impression you got was one of hostility towards yourself. From anyone here, in fact.

Gupfee, it seems to me that this PM (or his "friend") has only one account on here - at least one with which (s)he's posted, and the manner with which they launched their game, was, to start with at least, very unoriginal and ham-fisted, but was it actually breaking the TOS? (and yes I'm afraid this is me in full I-can't-be-bothered-to-check mode Razz) Of course, you know far more that me about the general situation here, but that's my £0.02 anyway.

Can't believe I'm leaping to the defence here, but I'm actually, if you'll forgive the innuendo, quite interested to find out what's in Josh's box Smile

You don't see the dupes because I already deleted them.
