[SPEC] XC90 photo locations http://pirateloot.blogspot.com/ has some pictures of the XC90, perhaps taken just before it was buried. There are more pictures here .
These are my observations. Perhaps it might tell us where the mad, mad finalists' treasure hunt will occur:
1) The car has the steering wheel on the left, and is parked on the right hand side of the road, suggesting that you might have to drive on the right on the island shown in the photos. If this is true the island is not Jamaica. Jamaicans drive on the left (thanks to us Brits). Of course it may be beacuse it is a Swedish car.
2) The kerb stones are painted red. I believe this is used in the US to denote no parking.
Could the island be Puerto Rico?
Anyone recognise the town in the background?

Nothing beats actually going there Hi girlpirate!
That's google for you. I stand to be corrected on the kerb stones as nothing beats actually going somewhere rather than just googling the place.
Puerto Rico would only change the coordinates everyone has been playing with - more like 17N67W - but I am in danger of crossing over into other discussions.

Uri Geller will have beaten us to it Check out these guys. They are taking a more direct/hopeless aproach(depending on your point of view), trying to find the car by remote viewing (kind of like using ESP)

I've tried it and think I can sense palm trees near the burial site

They use red curbs in Jamaica. Yellow ones too.
