[Email] July 2 - Peter at Mystery Town

I sent a letter to Peter and pointed out the map on the Aglaura site that showed where it was located. Guess I'm not the only one who missed it. Smile

Sandra-

Well, whaddaya know? I looked all over the site for that map, and I didn't see
it either. Weird.

I've had enough psychology training (one semester, mandatory for premed majors)
to know that while my dream produced some interesting imagery, in the context
of my anxiety about work it makes perfect sense. Stress releasing dreams are
common occurences and come in a few different flavors - dreaming that one
failed an important test, missed a plane, or lost a treasured item is just
another feature of the landscape of human existence. I don't believe in
"strange" dreams - the illusion of prophecy or vision in dreams is a relic of a
superstitious past age. I do have an interest in relics, mind you, but I don't
believe in any mystical significance that might be attached to them. They tell
the story of what really happened, here, in the physical world; my job is to
read it faithfully.

I'm looking around for somewhere to crash in Aglaura when I get there. I've
sent this Sprague guy an email, I'm not sure if he'll respond. He did just put
out a comic, so hopefully he won't feel too weird about questioning emails from
random people.

It appears that Peter is our "doubting Thomas" when it comes to what is going on in Aglaura. He doesn't give any importance to visionary or prophetic dreams and sees them as mearly expressions by our mind of everyday things.

If he ends up staying with Dale, I think he might be in for a surprise. Smile

But, we do need our skeptic who looks at things from a rational point of view - that is until he runs into a few DEGs or maybe meets up with Iris.

Re: [Email] July 2 - Peter at Mystery Town

Belatedly relaying an e-mail I got from Peter on July 2:

Embarassing, huh? I just hope I didn't come off as a total loon.

There are quite a lot of forensics to be done in a living town, of course, as
long as the original buildings are still standing. The best sites are those
that were abandoned once and have stayed that way ever since, but of course
that rarely happens. Towns get repopulated by drifters, second or third
generation natives, or intentional colonists, and the life cycle of the town
starts anew. But really, I'm not going to Aglaura to do forensics; I'm going
there to look for the Woods Walker and his mysterious secret-in-the-wall.

Whoa. Until I read your question, I never really understood why the Walker of
the Woods would hunt down Mystery Town. I bet whatever the secret is isn't
hidden; it's probably in plain sight! It's just my civic forensics skills are
needed to decipher it. Now I'm sure this must be why he chose me to uncover
this thing, because he knows my skills at my craft. After weeks of frustration
at his puzzles, it'll be nice to be handed something only I can solve. I can't
wait to get down there.

My "question," incidentally, was this:

The interesting thing is that Aglaura, unlike the other towns on your site, is not abandoned but seems to be alive and well -- though as Ong's Hat it was once all but a ghost town. How can you do your work as a civic forensicist on a town that isn't dead?

My apologies, this is a very late post. I received this email from Peter on June 28th:

Nahs,

Damn you! I spent two of my precious off-work hours reading through that 3-0-7
story. It's quite a tale, if true, but I'm not quite ready to give up my name
and address just yet. I've printed out that little map on the page you sent me
and stuck it in my traveling bag, so I'll have it if I ever make it to Aglaura.

The info you sent was helpful, although I was looking for Mapquest directions -
I know, I'm lazy. From your info I was able to look on Google Maps, but where
the town should be there doesn't seem to be anything but barrens, really. I
wonder if the satellite photos are old?

Peter is a pure pragmatist. He's the voice of "reality" in this whole experience - so naturally he would not see Aglaura on MapQuest - but he did give an excuse that the information might be late.

I'm still not sure why he isn't getting involved. Many of us have told him get in touch with Dale, Sam, or Sarah.

I guess it's just a matter of waiting until he's ready to be more active in what is going on.

According to the WhoIs info - it's using same server and registered in the same manner as some other confirmed ingame sites. I think he is not just ready to visit (perhaps he's gonna represent a different mask and we are currently involved with History).
