I don't know if anybody really found the solution.
But I am concerned by several things:
3) in the box (the US one), in the first column, a piece is missing to fill the square completely while this is not the case for the others 7 columns.
What do you think?
Actually, I was able to fill the square completely. Have you tried again?

Send an image of your square.
I checked again and it is obvious that a bit is missing in one column.

Well, I think I screwed my first answer up big time. I tried re-submitting with the answer based on this, but I'm sure it won't get in as several other people have probably already submitted this.
Anyway, here's what I now think is the solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As most people know, the box lid has 8 numbers based on the number of strokes it takes to make the shapes:

The inside of the box is solved by fitting the pieces together and taking the number of the ones that don't fit (I had to do this in photoshop because looking at it originally I didn't think it would work):

This gives you the order of how the numbers on the lid should be, which results in 43642476. Too bad that isn't what I entered the first time [/img]

Congratulations! You have successfully proved that I need to get my vision checked. You are absolutely right. There is a small piece missing. I think my eye-to-brain connection is a little tired at the moment.
So, to answer your initial question... Yes, this bothers me as well. But what can we do about it?

It sounds like you found the lid. Now you have to find the box somewhere else. It's buried under the sand as well.

Is it in the same area as the lid, then?

No. You must continue to look around the island in another spot to find the box. I'm sorry I can't be more descriptive than that. All the sand patches look basically the same to me - and, quite honestly, I can't exactly remember where I found the box anyway.

Well, it has been fun "hunting" with all of you. I hope to have the pleasure of your company on some other adventure soon. My brain hurts from banging my head against the wall for too long.
Good night!
