[update] Sarah's Blog July 18 Optimism/Depression

So. How does one define "all"? A majority? More than 50%? 75%? 85%?

To my surprise, some scraps remain. I have been wandering through there for days, holding the ruined books like they were my lost children and crying like a child myself. There remains about 15% of the contents which is salvageable. The glass is not full, but it is not completely empty. Maybe I can hold it up and drink from it; let those last drops coat my parched throat which is raw from sobs and the ugly smell of smoke and someone's planned destruction. I humor myself that I can smell the arsonist, a rank concoction of black oil and burnt hair.

I have made little piles of books. Poetry here, children's literature there. Meager and stark against the ashes.

I am sorry not to have corresponded with anyone. I don't even talk to myself these days. I sat down to write this and noticed that underneath my fingernails is black muck. I went to the bathroom and spent 15 minutes scrubbing them with a nail brush, succeeding in nothing but making hamburger of the tips of my fingers. The muck remains, defiant. I hate it.

Sarah last entry smacks of Lady Macbeth when she said, "Out, damned spot! out, I say!".
I suppose, since Sarah created the masks, she is culpable in a way.

The PM or whomever is quite a good writer. Sara's post was pretty darn depressing!
