[13:21] Wonderlandsoc: Alice is partially operational, which is why we had to go into hiding. The Black Hand Gang always know the government's next move and can anticipate it entirely

[13:22] Wonderlandsoc: At the moment we can only speculate what the BHG want to use Alice for, but by my estimate it will not be good

[13:25] Wonderlandsoc: Unsure what to do, I left my hiding place and made my way across town to the hotel I had stationed him in. When I got there and explained to the receptionist I was a business partner of Harry's

[13:25] Wonderlandsoc: I will send you all a copy of the E-mail, I am certain that it was not the police - this must have been the BHG's way of avoiding unwanted attention

[13:26] Wonderlandsoc: When I returned to my hiding place and contacted the team, I discovered another E-mail in my inbox. It was blank, but had an image attatched to it. it was sent by the BHG through Harry's computer

[13:27] Wonderlandsoc: This is our only lead, but we can not decode it. I will sent the image to you, hopefully you can help
[13:27] Russell unfic: sure we will have a stab at it
[13:28] Wonderlandsoc: Obviously we are very anxious, we are being tailed and have Alice watching our every move. Now we have lost Harry I fear for both his safety and ours

[13:28] Russell unfic: As long as you give us any shred of evidence the moment you get it im sure we can help you

My receipt was being fucking weird and said I about £10,000 in my account, I thought it was a bug and kept walking but after about 15 mins I thought sod it im going back to double check. I know you said to keep and eye out and be random but I just had to check. When I got there, there was a black van on the other side of the street. I checked the atm and my receipt was wrong. So I got pissed off and left. I walked to the hotel but I realised that someone had got out of the van and was following me. I didn't want to do anything so I just kept walking you know. I got to the hotel and checked in, Im there now looking out of my room window. Theres two fucking black vans outside which weren't there when I got here. Man I am scared what the hell do I do?"

I have attatched the image which I received some minutes later from the same address, presumably using Harry's computer which was still on when I reached his hotel room.

There's a few things odd about the picture itself. In doing a contrast check, the outline of the corner of a square appears. It could be an artifact, but seem very well ordered for an otherwise blank part of the canvas. It's almost as if something was put there, and then removed? It could also be steg data?

Also, when I download the attachment, and save the image, it saves as UNTITLED.BMP while the attachment is listed as SURPRISE.JPG. Something goofy is going on with the file, and I'm wondering what the surprise is.

Not sure if any of this means anything, but I'm being a good ARGer and posting. :p

ok, the file renaming deal is part of Hotmail functionality upon testing. :p It's just the way it handles things. So ignore that part.

This may have nothing to do with anything, but if alice is a sophistocated AI with access to the internet, it seems like maybe john should be taking more precations with what he says on myspace and Aim etc. It doesn't make sense that he would know all about her and be afraid, and then communicate in a way that she can very likely eavesdrop on and possibly tamper with.

like I said, probably not important, but It was just my thought.

That is a concern that John should definitely worry about soon, although it looks like Alice is currently being rebuilt and probably not active, so I should think he's ok for now. And he does seem to be taking many other precautions, so I wouldn't put it past him to already have a plan for dealing with communication around Alice...

 		ok just out of curiosity how did you work out the part with the the pictures and Alice's IQ, i understand the part with the keyboard shift and the bottem sentance i just dont get the other part Embarassed i know its proberly V. obvious but i just can see it

Ok the second section of pictures is a rebus, the first pic is "Alice" then an "eye" then qoo.


The first pic is 26 lines and a dot above the numbers corresponding with the letters "FLOOS", which i then anagrammed to Fools.

Wonderland is online atm having a long chat at the moment and trying to dig up as much background as possible.....will post drekly. Its a long log so do bare with me.

 		Although I didn't get a single one of them (first anyways), I'm happy to explain them as they are typical of ARG puzzles:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the top, the bars relate to the alphabet, each bar is a letter starting from the left, a, b, c, etc. The dots above show which letters are used. So you get one 'F', an 'L', two 'O's, etc. Then anagram them to read 'Fools'.

Alice IQ is a rebus ('i.e. words in pictures -- think of the old Concentration game on TV)

The numbers and letters are a shift on the computer keyboard -- move one row down and lean left to decode the message.

The bottom are just anagrams (mixed up words).

[22:41] Wonderlandsoc: We are all taking it hard, but putting on a brave face. I visited Jessie yesterday morning and she was in tears. We're scared as you can imagine. They are after us, and with Alice I don't know how long we can run for.

[22:42] Wonderlandsoc: That is the scary thing. We are constantly on the run and the only 'trump card' we have is your support.

[22:43] Wonderlandsoc: It is a reassuring thought, thank you. Your skills are obviously plentiful in this sort of thing. John made the correct decision to make contact.
[22:44] Russell unfic: not sure where to make the next move, have been wondering about second guessing them but as its so top secret we cannot trawl for it, is there a govt site we can backdoor?
[22:45] Wonderlandsoc: Wonderland Society spent nine years looking for one. It does not exist. Alice is a tool neither the BHG or the government want anyone to know about. Of course if we do find anything you will be notified immediately
[22:46] Wonderlandsoc: If you ask me I do not know what John is planning to be our 'next step'. We desperately need to know exactly what the BHG want to use Alice for, especially now we have just learned that they are redesigning her.
[22:47] Wonderlandsoc: I am sure that this is not something on a whim. This is a carefully planned out procedure orchestrated by a group of considerable intelligence and power.

[22:55] Wonderlandsoc: John is heavily knowledgable in computers, and it was his expertise that brought us together. I, as you know, am a doctor of science (chemistry to be exact). Harry is a historian, we brought him into the group because he understands the government. Jessie is good with numbers and has an excellent streak in getting information when she wants it.
[22:56] Wonderlandsoc: Finally Shaun is the cousin of John and has spent all of his life dabbling in conspiracy theories. He is a philosopher

[22:59] Wonderlandsoc: John worked for many people as a private software designer. During his travels he spoke to a lot of people. One of these people was a member of the Black Hand Gang.
[22:59] Wonderlandsoc: Before they had designed Alice they had no malicious intentions. They wanted to sell her to computer games companies to improve gaming. Of course, John is bright. He understood the capabilities of Alice.
[23:00] Wonderlandsoc: It was then that he decided to keep an eye on this gang. Before they went top secret Alice was pretty public. It was not hard for John to monitor them, especially because he has contacts in the world of computers.
[23:02] Wonderlandsoc: It was when the government exploited a clause in the Computer Misuse Act 1992 that John realised his fears could be accurate. Alice is powerful enough to spead herself across the internet like a plague, in a matter of seconds she could know everything about you, or have control of a weapon in the Middle East.
[23:03] Wonderlandsoc: He had to take decisive action. He already knew me from the University of Warwick, so he called me and explained the situation. I agreed to help him. He enlisted Shaun, his cousin, and I searched around for a good researcher. I found Jessie, a bright colourful girl, and recruited her. Finally Jessie called upon Harry, who she had known for years, to be our final member.

[23:04] Russell unfic: And Black Hand Group, an interesting name any idea why they are called that?
[23:07] Wonderlandsoc: A little searching on the internet could bring that up. Of course we have Harry, so we didn't need to. The Black Hand Gang is the group in the early 1900s that were devoted to serbian unification.
[23:08] Wonderlandsoc: Sorry, minor crash then. Damn satellite phones.
[23:08] Russell unfic: no problem understandable, we dont need the risk
[23:08] Russell unfic: have you found any more information on the laptop?
[23:09] Wonderlandsoc: Harry's laptop?

[23:10] Wonderlandsoc: It is being used as police evidence at the moment. As far as I know there are no finger prints and Harry's e-mail was already open, so they just used that. There is no internet history so we assume that they used a disk with the image loaded onto it.
[23:10] Russell unfic: ok and anything else that the police managed to find at the scene?
[23:11] Wonderlandsoc: God I hope he's ok. I really don't know what the BHG could be trying. They could have even killed him already...
[23:11] Wonderlandsoc: As I said before, there was a minor struggle. A vase was broken, we believe Harry tried to defend himself with it.
[23:12] Russell unfic: im sure they wont have he will be of too much use to be killed. Sorry to be blunt but thats how i see it.

[23:12] Wonderlandsoc: I am so paranoid at the moment.

[23:14] Wonderlandsoc: But naturally they see everything we do. It is inevitable that they always make the first move. They are playing with us, it is obvious. The note; Alice IQ? What the hell does that mean? And why tell us they are making her stronger?
[23:15] Russell unfic: it does seem like a millionaires power struggle, the thing is they are too cocky, at some point they will slip up and that will be our opportunity
[23:15] Wonderlandsoc: We will be ready to pounce on them with your help.

 		I was in a play recently, and the baddies were called The Black Hand Gang. The play was called 'The Perils of Pauline', it was about a girl called Pauline who got tangled up in a plot to kill the President of some non-descript country. The only characters who were not baddies were Pauline, the Narrator and Algernon Willerby-Smythe.
