Hey there Sarah,
i'm helping out a friend with some weird happenings there in Bay Horse. Something has been bugging me and i'm pretty sure you can help me out.
It seems one of the people that is somewhat associated with the case has been spending some time around your store. If you can remember anything unusual about Jack Brown, it would help us all out a ton.
In particular, what times you might remember him being at the store
on Friday the 7th. When was he there, how long was he there, what did he buy or show interest in, what was his demeanor. Anything at all you can remember will be a big help.
By the way, know where i can find a good Pazyryk Carpet?

You want to know about that wonderful Jack Brown?
He's been in and out for about a month now. Jack often comes in and takes
tea with me while we talk antiques. Or, really, while I talk antiques and
history. I'm afraid that I do ramble on when asked about the things I
love.
Friday the 7th? Wasn't that the day there was that awful fuss up at the
Wylie House? What a beautiful place. I'm so glad that there's a tenant
again who can keep it up.
Jack has been even more interested in the place than I am. I think I've
told him its history three or four times by now and he always listens
intently. What a nice boy.
Apparently, his interests, like yours, lie mostly in fabrics. I don't
have much wool and nothing as old as a Pazyryk carpet! I'd love to get
more pieces like that, but around here antiques tend to be glasswork or
carved items. Not that I don't love a good carved chair, but there's
something so... exotic... about the rugs and linens.
But I digress. I actually do remember that Friday, since it's the only
time Jack bought anything from me. As I said, I don't carry most of the
things he's interested in, although I've put him in touch with some other
dealers more suitable for him.
That morning, he came in around... oh, 10 or 11. Earlier than he had been
coming in, but not unusually early. He'd sometimes have breakfast in town
and then stop by. In fact, that's how I first met him. Jack was just
coming through and then saw my little exhibit about the history of Bay
Horse and became fascinated by Wylie House. He asked for a copy of the
Wylie Will, which is what reminded me that I still had some promotional
copies in the back.
But you were asking about that Friday. We chatted for a little while and
then Jack mentioned that since he was going to be staying in the area for
a while, he wanted to spruce up his part of the house, make it a little
more elegant. I showed him some very nice figurines, but Jack said that
what he was really interested in was dishware.
Well, I happened to have some very nice pieces which Jack looked through.
He picked out two very nice ironstone plates. They were quite old, from
the middle 19th century, and in generally good condition but slightly
brittle. In any case, I gave him a good price on them and he left around
noon.
I hope this helps!

She rambles and seems to be quite the Jack-fan. i emailed her pics of the plates on the floor incident to see if they may be connected.

to me this seems even more like a red herring......you guys see if i'm missing anything here. i sent her a picture of the "Die Z" plates arrangement from Anton's Case notes to get her opinion.

i asked her:
Quote:
Wow. Thanks Sarah. Yeah....Jack does sound like a nice guy. Hey, i've
attached a picture here and i was wondering if these might be the plates
he bought. If they aren't, do you think you might be able to send me a link to a site somewhere that might have pictures of these plates?
Thanks

What an odd picture. But as an antique dealer, I'm used to odd requests.
You wouldn't believe how many times I've had people describe a
half-remembered heirloom and expect me to be able to produce it on demand.
Oh, but the plates. It's hard to tell, but I don't think any of those are
the ones Jack bought. The plates I sold him were much thinner. I also
only sold him two plates. I don't have any more in stock, but I did a
quick search through EBay (an antiquers newest friend!) and came up on a
decent picture of a similar plate:

I hope you find this helpful!
