It's gfx-ashenSPLAT ashendecay.com I'm talking to him right now... both him and the other guy (who was a 14 year old boy XP) Both have no idea what the site is..... It seems strange why they would have been used in the text, maybe the owner just knows we would add them and pump them for info?

Also, I tried putting something into the password box on aeon8.net and got this in the title:
4E4F4F4E20525958552058455820435A454200. x=8
That looks like something... I'll be damned if I know what though.

Well if you convert from Hex you get:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
NOON RYXU XEX CZEB
which comicly rots to DEED HONK NUN SPUR.
Im guessing the first part is right though...

anyone getting IM's from aeon8x on AIM? He seems pretty avid about telling that "Resistance is Futile"
it seems he's trying to drop me some kind of clue, but as previously stated, i'm not longer interested in this, so I'm having more fun messing with him than anything else.

I tried talking to aeon8x
strayBLUE13: hey watsup
aeon8x: resistance is futile
strayBLUE13: okay. hints on the encrypted codes?
strayBLUE13: wth do they mean yo?
strayBLUE13: hello.??????
aeon8x: 42414E4720564152205452454B00. x=8
aeon8x: have erritar xylophobia AN arbitrary grosp resistance avid molecol resht orbistrational xenophile 13
aeon8x: resistance is futile
strayBLUE13: yur moms futile to resist bitch
anyways the have erritar xylophbo.... the first letters of each word amazingly converts to hex AN agram rox 13
means hex anagram and rot-13?
p.s. the code given prior to the have erritar xylo... is the one on the title page of the private access page. amazingly i did something!

An hour later, Aeon8x just messaged me with exactly the same message.
If it wasn't so damn late, I'd start working on it. Not that I ever find anything, but still.

Aeon8x just hit me up, too. I'm fiddling around with the stuff without much hope of success.
[EDIT]
have erritar xylophobia AN arbitrary grosp resistance avid molecol resht orbistrational xenophile 13
first letters (plus the AN) = hex AN agram rox 13
And I got another msg:
[23:31] aeon8x: codex = (1 && $CAP);
Which, if I interpret correctly, is what I just did.
So...hex gets us BANG VAR TREK, anagramming gets us a lot of stuff, and ROT-13 gets us a lot more stuff which I'm sifting through now.

It seems aeon8x just happens to randomly message people who frequent unfiction. Wow, what luck!

I know I'm a bit snarky there, but honestly - it's 2:00 am, I am packing and preparing the ARGfest handout, I don't have time for this. Gah. Enjoy this ever-so-original rabbithole, wherever it leads.

More chat, and code which I can mostly grasp but not well enough to get me the answer.
[00:00] silverfeather551: Antigone rex?
[00:01] aeon8x: $range=deftype 10 MIN;
[00:01] silverfeather551: Hmm
[00:01] silverfeather551: I do appreciate the hints
[00:16] aeon8x: $input(negationrex)==bool(false);
[00:16] silverfeather551: Yes, I figured, thanks.
[00:17] aeon8x: console input= cstring("Yes, I figured, thanks. ") char &input []
[00:19] silverfeather551: It's days like these when I regret not majoring in Comp Sci. But it's good to have friends.
[00:19] aeon8x: $var("aeon8x")==bool(false);
(^ This was right after I entered "aeon8x" as a password on the site)
[00:20] silverfeather551: Well, it was worth a try.
[00:20] aeon8x: negationrex==logic(&hiddenvar);
[00:33] aeon8x: char(&userinput("negationrex")) != char(&mix("$password"))
[00:35] silverfeather551: I know it's an anagram, but there's a lot. It could be aeonx ******, or arg ********, or something entirely different.
[00:36] aeon8x: bool(true)= (char(&password)[1]) == g && (char(&password)[11]) == x)
[00:37] aeon8x: console input (system:: cls).classc.
[00:37] aeon8x: sysbot (aeon8x) $var.logic.end
[00:37] *** "aeon8x" signed off at Fri Jul 21 00:37:51 2006.
So, G*********X?
[EDIT] I think Aeon8x feels sorry for me.
I tried "generationx," and got the following:
[00:42] aeon8x: generationx== logic(&password)
[00:43] aeon8x: user_view(42414E4720564152205452454B00. x=
Finally, got it:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
x=8, so the password is "generation8"
Which gets you to http://www.aeon8.net/private/index.php,
which has the following source:

It could be legit, I suppose, but it doesn't look like it.
Going with the same "take the first letter and caps" from the have ar-whatever IM, we get:

Aeon nethack virus? Countdown to 8.1.06? Hmm.

If this is actually a follow up to Eon8, which someone suggested it is, does anyone have a quick-reference guide to Eon8 that I could read? Aeon8x messaged me last night, and next to the Lost Experience (which is more cinema than game), I'm up for another ARG to add to my list. However, if it's a sequel, I'd like to figure out what I'm getting myself in to.

If no-one has noticed too, there is a new line of binary in the source, which gives us the address ' sanguals-4SPLAT hotmail.com '

Here ya go shaggy:
bwochinski's Eon8 guide
* There was a website with a mysterious countdown.
* The countdown hit zero, causing both the eon8 site and UF to crash due to traffic volume.
* This has been a test of the ARG Rabbit hole system. If this had been an actual ARG, Plotline and Interaction would have followed. Thank you.

So... nothing happened, and this is the game that follows?
Interesting. I think I might... keep my eye on this so that I can be prepared for the next crash!
