[EMAIL] Iris Page 7/24 The Devil Hunt

Quote:
Daniel,

I'm sorry that you couldn't make it to the Devil Hunt on Friday, but I hope that
you had a nice visit with your grandmother? I don't know if you've seen the
update on the website, but the hunt was cancelled part way through due to the
rain anyway. I should have listened to what Nature was trying to tell me all
day. Thunderstorms do not make for a successful outdoor event. The wind blew
and the rain fell all day long and didn't show any sign of letting up - until
right before 9 o'clock. People started to arrive with raincoats on their backs
and hopeful smiles on their faces so who was I to disappoint them? The turnout
for the hunt was much better than I expected, with participants arriving from
as far as Hammonton! To be quite honest, I only expected a handful of Aglaura
residents to show up. I let my excitement over the good turnout cloud my
judgement and the hunt for the JD began. By the time we all got into the
forest, the rain was light enough that you could hardly feel a drop through the
thick covering of the trees.

Jack McCoy, our expert Jersey Devil tracker, started to lead us into the forest,
pointing out broken branches and areas underneath pines where the blanket of
needles had been disturbed. After we walked for a few minutes, we entered a
small clearing. I could feel raindrops sneaking through the needles above us. My gut was telling me to turn back, to tell everyone to turn back. Just as the
words, "Maybe we should..." started to slip from my mouth, Jack hushed everyone
and instructed us to quickly turn off our flashlights and remain still. We
waited there in the clearing for for what seemed like an eternity as Jack
whispered to us in the dark. I could feel the temperature in the air dropping
and the hairs on the back of my neck started to stand up. I worried that the
lightning was going to start again and strike us down right there.

Then I heard screaming. A few of the people in the back of the group saw
something large and covered with fur run right past them. Flashlights beamed
through the clearing, despite Jack's repeated requests to turn them off. Most
of the crowd went in the direction of the large fur-covered creature, but found
nothing. I heard a scream coming from the other direction and ran over to find
Phyllis as white as a ghost. She said, "I saw him" and I assumed that she
meant the Jersey Devil. I started to call out to Jack and the rest of the
group, but a crack of thunder drowned me out. Phyllis grabbed my hands, looked
me straight in the eye and said, "I just saw Wes Keeler!" A nice fellow named
Peter noticed us and came over to help us look around for signs of anyone (or
anything). I wonder if he was the same Peter you know? Before we could find
anything, the sky opened up and the rain started pouring to the ground. The
group ran back toward town and the hunt was officially over.

Daniel, it was so surreal! Phyllis is not one to make up such stories - she saw
Wes Keeler!

Iris

Well at least we know Peter was there, but this just opens up more questions for me.

Ms Page (or may I call you Iris?) -
I was very much interested in this weekends Devil Hunt. Unfortunately,
I have a previous engagement in Chicago. Is it possible to have
someone take pictures of the activity? And it is possible to get one
of the bumper stickers if there are any left over afterwards?
Have fun and stay safe. Those woods are kinda creepy (when you watch
the trailers from Wesson Studios). And isn't there still a murderer
out there somewhere?
Thanks,
Heather

Similar, but personalized to match the email I sent her a couple of days ago. And a slightly different version of the events on Friday night.

Heather,

I prepared my camera to take pictures during the Devil Hunt, but Jack McCloy,
the expert Jersey Devil tracker, suggested that we not take photographs during
the hunt. He said that the flash could scare away the Jersey Devil. I
planned
on taking pictures afterward, but the hunt had to be cut short due to the
pouring rain.

I felt quite safe going out into the woods with Jack and the large group that
attended the hunt. What do you mean about a murderer being "out there"? Do
you mean here in Aglaura? I know there was a rumor going around that a body
was found in one of the buildings that caught fire, but the police claim it to
be just that - a rumor.

Anyway, even though the hunt was cut short, we still had a good deal of
excitement. A few people claim they saw the Jersey Devil, but even more
exciting is what my good friend Phyllis saw!

During the hunt, a few of the people in the back of the group saw something
large and covered with fur run right past them. Flashlights were quickly
switched on, despite Jack's repeated requests to turn them off. Most of the
crowd went in the direction of the large fur-covered creature, but found
nothing. I heard a scream coming from the other direction and ran over
to find
Phyllis as white as a ghost. She said, "I saw him" and I assumed that
she meant
the Jersey Devil. I started to call out to Jack and the rest of the
group, but
a crack of thunder drowned me out. Phyllis grabbed my hands, looked me
straight in the eye and said, "I just saw Wes Keeler!" A nice fellow named
Peter noticed us panicking and came over to help us look. Before we could
search the area fully, the sky opened up and the rain started pouring to the
ground and we were forced to head back to town.

Isn't it exciting that Wes Keeler's spirit would appear during the hunt
held in
his honor!

By the way, I will definitely send you a bumper sticker as soon as I get the
chance.

Iris
