GPS The Movie
GPS The Game

I ran across this today off a link from someone's MySpace comment board. A banner lead me to a site for 'GPS the Movie', and the site describes the upcoming flick as a suspense thriller, "the first movie based on the amazingly popular GPS treasure hunts".

Exploration of the movie site just oozes with an ARG-like theme, with college kids on a treasure hunt who dig up a small coffin with polaroids of a young woman bound, blindfolded and gagged with a plea for help on the pics.

The game site, with a different plotline, consists of an author ruminating on days gone by with his treasure hunting grandfather. The author goes on to state that while waiting at the grandfather's deathbed, his grandfather gave him a map, and told him one last story.

This leads to the game promo with:

"Play the ultimate GPS contest for the ultimate prize. The top 5 winners of the initial GPS contest will win copies of the Shepherd Loman map which you will use to participate in the ultimate GPS contest where you will compete to be the first to find Shepherd Loman's treasure. The ultimate contest will be documented for possible use on a reality television show."

There's a signup page for updates, clues, and details; and a mailing list as well. According to the signup page, the game is supposed to launch on June 1st.

This certainly sounds interesting...

 		If you volunteered to do a drop, check your inbox as they had a problem capturing all info except First and Last Name and email, last night.
If you didn't get an email saying to reenter the info, you're probably fine.

I wanted to update you on the game. Our pre-launch of GPS THE GAME is in two days. On June 1st we will start the online portion of the game, which includes a mystery, puzzles, and more. We will be sending out treasure to you very soon, which we'll need you to hide and then get us the coordinates to. Then we will release all of the hidden treasure locations on July 1st. We had such a good response from people wanting to hide a treasure box that we decided to give all players the opportunity to hide one by ordering the needed materials from us at the cost of the materials only. However, we wanted to let you know that YOU are one of the initial 150 people who we chose to hide a box for us, without any cost to you! So look for more specific updates soon that will be given directly to you, our special volunteer!

We will also send you another email tomorrow - the day before our launch. It will include a special link to our test site, which will allow you to get started early. Please let us know if you run into any problems or bugs while you play the game. We are working hard to get everything done in time for the launch, so we don't know exactly when we'll be sending you the test link, but look for it tomorrow.

We hope you like our creation!

i'm guessing part of it will be like a map or something (that goes along with the movie-treasure-hunt they mentioned in a previous email).
