For me, that was the toughest part of the game. It seems like you're stuck, but thats what they want you to think. The trick is to move the 25th book in the bookcase, that will open a secret passage to the basement. In the basement, there is room all the way to the back. In that room there is a rug that you can lift up. Lift up that rug and there will be a key under there. You can use this key to go back to the desk.

But heres the trick, so be careful:
