You're right, there are 5 circuits. Sorry. I missed the 1 in 2 out not gate.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Luigi wrong. I didn't even know it was a galvanometer. I'll try Alessandro (Volta) next, when I'm unlocked in 20 hours, though I'm sure somebody will have already

Tried if for you...page came back "Incorrect"

Now I'm locked out for 14 hours.

Because the solve page asks for the first name only I think its more likely that the answer is either:
a) a fictional character;
b) a thing
or
c) as UKver2.0 said someone with a unique first name.

Could be a story such as macbeth (incorrect) hamlet etc. There are many stories that could be suggested by these circuits if we can interpret them correctly. I hope MC picked a fun one Smile

A couple of thoughts that I had around the colours of the resistors and capacitor were Cluedo - matches up quite well except for the Brown and Orange - and Reservoir Dogs but again the colours don't quite match.

Im going to take the risk of getting a Trout and put my vivid idea in the pot

I was thinking overnight that as the card reads 'Whose Story?' and the answer box asking for 'first name only'
but does it actually rule out the puctuation ie we are trying names like
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Bob & John

but what if the site wants something like
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Bob's or Johns

Its just a thought as it has been a problem in the past with so many other cards, I have emailed Mind Candy on this and am still awaiting a reply and will keep all posted on it when i get a reply.

Tried:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Nuri (Said)
Corazon (Aquino)
Fidel (Castro)

The 1st 2 had 6 coups attempted against them. Not sure about Castro, but seemed to fit in the category

You can add these to the list of fails:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Finnegan and Humphrey (from 'Finnegan's Wake' by James Joyce - a circuitous novel)

So I've been lurking on this thread, resisting (heh!) a post until I actually had the card, but since I don't know when that will be, I figured I'd chime in. Some of this is summary of what has already been stated, some of this is new, but I figured it would be nice to have it all in one place.

The title "Circuitous" is kind of funny because it means "(adj) Being or taking a roundabout, lengthy course: took a circuitous route to avoid the accident site." This definition fits in pretty well with most cards (and puzzles in general)--a roundabout way of presenting information, but the punniness is well suited to this card as well as the "speaker circuit" being pretty roundabout with all the extraneous resistors.

The text "Whose story?" implies that a story (either by encoded name or by description) is displayed on the card. We will have to identify the story, then identify the author or character, I assume.

I see four circuits:
* The AND gate, which in this case is being used more as a buffer because tying the two inputs together makes it a simple passthrough.
* The OR gate
* The NOT/inverter gate
* A XNOR gate. This seems pretty rare and arbitrary to me. I do a fair amount of work in digital design and can't say I have run across anything using this gate in real life.
* That weird speaker thing.

Some of the schematic symbols seem a bit odd to me. Maybe it's because different countries have their own standards (I'm in the US), but I think everyone follows the same IEEE or ISO standard for the symbols. Maybe they were taken from something historical, from before there were standards? The resistors as squares rather than zig-zag lines (--/\/\/\/--) seems a bit strange. The "OR" gate looks a bit squished. What's that circle-with-arrow and why does it look like it's facing the wrong way? I'm assuming the pointy-thing-in-circle is a lamp. Most of the illuminators I use now are LEDs, but I seem to recall lamps being more like a coil (half-a-transformer) with a circle around it, but this could be an alternate version. Maybe it's some other kind of vacuum tube. The switches, while straightforward enough to recognize, seem different than any other switch symbol I've seen and give the impression of momentary action (e.g. code keys for morse code), but why there would be two momentary switches in a row is a bit beyond me right now.

As for what that weird speaker circuit is, I'm guessing it's just jibberish. Well, not jibberish per-se, but not a real circuit. Probably the parts or a path around the parts means something in the context of a puzzle (each could somehow translate to a letter or word), but actually building the circuit won't do anything. The plethora of resistors seems forced (a real electrical engineer would coalesce the multiple resistor's values into a single resistor.) There's nothing to modulate the speaker. I guess, technically, if we knew the type of speaker it would act as another resistor (8 ohm or 4 ohm, typically.) The ground is in a place that seems odd for a DC circuit, regardless of whether it means "electric ground" or "earth ground." Although, assuming it's electric ground (the battery's negative terminal), you'll have a battery burn up, possibly the lamp will light (I'm a little unclear of the interaction between the two batteries when one is shorted), and the remainder of the circuit (speaker, resistors, switches) would be lifeless and not a factor.

At this point, I can't come up with any meaning for the jibberish circuit. There are two components at each short end, five on one long edge, and 6 on the other--15 parts including ground and I can't help but think that there's some message in it because of all the extraneous parts. Then you have the 4 gates and if you slur "four gates" a bit sounds like "forgets," but that's a long-shot.

So, really, what story might this represent?

Also failed with
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hannibal

Just a thought, but
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
if the complete loop represents someone's life, then the earth (ground) could be the birth and death points. Wondered if the two switches represented crossing an obstacle of some kind. Also, if you could get the circuit to work with the earth where it is and the switches were made, the bulb would grow dimmer and then go out as the capacitor charged, so might be a reference to someone being blinded or losing sight.
Probably totally wrong, feel like I'm clutching at straws here!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Could the other four circuits that are incomplete just mean that you you should use the names of the gates with reference to the resistors that they are beside?

A couple ideas sprang to mind when i was reading BriEngima's post.

The lamp could signify an idea.
The speaker could be: sound, talking, radio, spoken aloud, talking about etc.
Morse Code - 2 swtiches, one for dots, one for dashes. This particular set up was used (If i remember correctly) in WWII. It used a galvanometer.

So who had a brainfart in the 40's? Then got talked about because he was either looney, or completely brilliant?
