Just an idea for a possible "story" made up from the resistor values:

12V - Car battery voltage (DC)
230K - Approx. number of Toyota Prius hybrids sold in U.S. so far.
5.5M - Total number of Toyota vehicles sold per year.
2.2K - 2200, the year we have until to stop CO2 emissions or else Greenland will melt Shocked
290M - The population of the U.S.
110 - Electrical outlet voltage in U.S. (AC)
770M - A UC Berkeley study showed if U.S. used plug-in hybrids, it would save 770 Million gallons of gasoline yearly.

Perhaps someone who has the Circuitous card (not me Sad ) could try entering the name of a top Toyota employee, or some hybrid vehicle advocate or inventor? Anyone else have an idea for a different "story" using these figures?

I like your style Mooch!

Sounds good, especially when the switches are added into your story. This does seem to suggest that switching to fuel cells or hybrids would be a good idea.

Everyone seems to be ignoring Von's hint and taking a very litteral view of the card (not very silvery!)

I'll have a look around and see what else the numbers reveal. I don't have my card with me at the moment, so can't try anything.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Has anyone tried Sting (stripy little tree hugger!)

Nice work Mooch!
Suddenly the galvonometer looks like a speedometer, and the oddly drawn diode looks like a windscreen wiper !
Tried "Toyota" to eliminate Toyta Prius, Toyota Synergy, Toyota Hybrid - no joy there.
Couldn't find anyone who would be identifiable by a first name only.

I love it. Even if it has nothing to do with the final answer, I love it. Reminds me of a popsci article (story?)... Shifty Eyes

And it isn't:

hybrid

I really like the thinking there though!

I've been thinking along another line - will try working a bit more on it over lunch and post later.

I really liked that idea too. It made sense of the numbers being in a different font, and if 20% were bought by women that would add to it.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sadly Sakichi (toyoda) = founder of the automatic loom company, and Kiichiro, his son who founded the automobile division, were both wrong.
Not sure if Michael was getting at this a couple of pages back, but it occured to me that the answer could be something like Laurel and Hardy, and you'd just enter Laurel. Feel free to edit my list (if the system lets you) if I miss any names off, like I nearly did with Cliff.

My other line of thinking (which hasn't come to anything more than the tree below) is to do with the way the logic 'circuits' segment the resistors. There are no circuits with both resistors and logic gates and the circuits with logic gates all start and end off the card, splitting it up into distinct areas. To me this suggested that we use the logic operators on the values in each area.

The circuits split the values up like this:

There could also be some zero's in there too (1 as another child of NOT and 4 as other children of EX-NOR).

well, i might be too late for this, but i posted the card as a question on an electronic site, and the admin posted this:
"hmmm there are several components in that circuit not connected to anything . . .

there also appears to be an redundant switch . . .

it looks as if when both switches are closed, the speaker emits a noise for the time it takes the capacitor to charge.

and oddly the + end of the battery is connected to groun . . . definitely not normal for today.

one of the components looks like a microphone . . . making sounds into it can fluctuate the voltage, making the speaker create a similar sound . . .

i bet its an old telephone circuit!!!"

Well I thought the whole damn circuit was illogical Razz

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Unfortunately Spock can also be ruled out, another incorrect answer.

Now what would be really fun is if we could somehow get a telephone number from the values on the card...

Very sorry if its aready been posted but the addition of all the resistance is a unix time stamp.

I took the date string: 1065732310 from hendo77's post
Quote:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
adding up the total resistance and get 1065732310 - is this correct? Looked up 1066 and tried William and Harold - both incorrect. Didn't really know what else to try with the number and wasn't 100% sure I'd worked it out right.

and conveted it to a regular time expression using this site: http://www.onlineconversion.com/unix_time.htm

The result date is:
Code:
Thu, 9 Oct 2003 20:45:10 UTC

Hope this helps...

How about Johann (Philipp Reis) or Antonio (Meucci).

Did anyone realise that it's been solved? (Congrats, Ringtail!)

Working off Ringyl's post, I can rule out William, Kirk, and Enterprise.
