I've also emailled an academic at SOAS asking for names of popular Japanese blogs (and also to forward the email on to people in Japan)....so he'll think I'm bonkers.

Where do (cute) Japanese students hang out?

Somebody trout me. I *thought* I read this whole thread, but I must have missed or skimmed past the billion2one URL. As it turns out, I ended up setting up the same sort of thing at http://haveyouseenhim.info/

I also cross-posted in a number of places, but got nothing terribly Earth-shattering back in response:
Quote:
The Japanese on the side says "You must find me" I think ("Watashi wo mitsukenasai") I used to know a Satoshi in Japan, but it doesn't look like him... mountain rural town. Is that a rice storage building on his right?

Only info back so far is in German:

sieht ganz nach europa aus deutschland, schweiz, östereich es sind alte werkhäuser so was sieht man eigentlich nur in den ländern

Just another person confirming what we thought - the buildings look very European.

I've written to the school I used to attend in Matsumoto City, Nagano Japan. There used to be a Satoshi. To me it looks like a Japanese countryside. Lots of rivers like that in Matsumoto, and mountains. Also, to me there something very Nihonish about the way it looks despite the tudor buildings.

Whilst we're in the "I've done" mood, I tried to get in touch with Gen Kanai from http://gen.kanai.net, which I came across googling. Looks like the sort of profile person we need to get this going in Japan, but he's not replied so far.

What I've not done is the Mandarin Chinese translation, which will have to now wait a couple of days. If anyone else has time to get in there, please feel free.

My guess is that this guy is famous, or rather easily contacted. I think when we find who this guy is he will give us a riddle, and then we solve it. As per "What is the answer" But is anyone else thinking that Von's hint
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"My name is Satoshi"

can mean something else. No ideas yet, but maybe it is the name of the river, houses or place in general. Heck it could even be Von's Japanese name (wouldnt put it past Mind Candy anyway)

I'm not sure this has already been mentioned.

I noticed that the river line was interupted on the right side:

This means the house on the right is in fact over the water. Could this be indicating an (old) water wheel? Possibly from the middle ages?

Maybe an internal one like this:

If it really is a water wheel then maybe this is some historical protected site. Maybe there is a map for Germany/Austria/Switserland where all water wheel houses are on?

Just a thought.

Well, Satoshi Nikaido is famous (he was in the Last Emperor as I said previously) and he looks* like our man (to me anyway).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
a bit

http://www.minotakeplan.com/04/img/nikaido-s.jpg

But conspiracy theorists out there, when you go to imdb or any other movie site, there is NO PICTURE of him.

Also this was on one site:
When's Satoshi Nikaido coming up on UK TV?
Unfortunately Satoshi Nikaido isn't on the air any time soon.

Does this mean that all powerful MC have removed his pictures from the Internet? Or does this mean that he is just a minor celeb not worthy of having a photo?

He's only been in two films, if he needs the work, they could have paid for him to disappear for a while Wink

Chinese Village with the water!!!

There was a show on British TV a week ago about a vilage on the stream, following the animals, and the people on the river.

Can anyone remember what it was called!

It may not be related, but its a guess...

I am also looking up on popular names on the census

Yes

I remember that.

It was one of David Attenborough's.

If someone could find a video that'd be great.

Ouch. Your birthday collides with Anna's death. Tough break.
