This thread is possibly the most impressive thing I've ever seen...

Wow... great info! I feel pretty confident it is Kaysersberg itself, the angles between the visible beams on the buildings to the right are a match for those in the photos catherwood found.

Yup - the chimney in the background matches too. Here's a side by side image to compare. Been trying to find a way to compare the dates, to get an idea of when his photo was taken, but can't see much to give it away.

Doing a great job, Book - definitely feels like he was there once, but now he's off somewhere else, so nice one for chasing up the companies...

I'm done sending emails to the associations I could find at the site I mentioned above, explaining enough about Perplex City, Mind Candy and our initiative not to freak them out into thinking we're talking someone through the Internet. They also have a link to the card, and a link to Billion2One.

Two mailer daemons replied saying that the adresses no longer existed, but I think I found valid ones for them after that, one explaining that all ofthe staff was away on vacation :p The rest went through just fine. Now it's just back to waiting...

If it comes down to that, who would be able to write an email in Japanese explaining all this ? The Japanese embassy in France might be of help, who knows ? Wink

Not that we need it, but here's another photo, taken just to the left of where the Billion to One photo was taken. Seems like he's standing on Le Pont Fortifié de Kaysersberg.

And one taken under where he was standing:

And one taken further back with the whole bridge in view:

I know one or 2 people still question if this is Kaysersberg, so here's the 3 photos which all show the same view from slightly different locations, with some matching features highlighted.

Right... That's enough photos! Very Happy

I am sure that the last wave of cards will somehow show where the cube is.

Has anyone got the GOLDEN CARD with the cube on it?

Do you think it will be one of those cards if you heat up... maybe....

I have found an interesting website called "3qu2" (quirky investigations into life in Asia) and I am going to email them and explain our story - they might post his picture on their site or hopefully link to the webpage if this is ok.

I got a reply from Corbett Wall who runs this website and he has put the Satoshi item on the FRONT PAGE of his web log - really good, have a look

Anyway, been away for a few days, just caught up, well done catherwood for finding the location! Impressive.

I saw that picture on August 3rd, and emailed the guy, about what we were doing, and didn't receive a reply back. Could have been that my email went into his spam folder, or he didn't recognize my name, and deleted me. Or, he read my email, and chuckled and is still laughing so hard he is shaking so bad that he can't reply.

I want to say its the latter.

If someone would like to have another go at sending him an email, here is his email addy: shirabay[splat]syr.edu

So maybe we should research Haruki Murakami...

Murakami's fictional characters often are searching for people in ways that send them down wonderful bizarre rabbit holes, so it seems like a perfect fit for PXC - but we're pretty confident Satoshi is not fictional. Don't know if Murakami ever based anything on real persons or places (seems unlikely!) but I'll do a little investigating.
