Maybe, in order to solve this, we need an almost completed map. If we're going with the pxc link then maybe there is a clue there. I always wondered what the map was for. Question

We've used the map several times now. Offhand, I can think of that time we had to match locations to the note Violet found, then there was the AQSYS navigation... it's even used to solve one or two cards already, I'm sure.

And when we had to make up imaginery crimes for the police we needed real street names.

I did a quick search on BoingBoing to see if they picked up Billion to One - they hadn't, but they've plugged Perplex City a few times, and they gave linklove to the Assault on the 13th Labour, so I dropped a nicely-written submission to them.

Hopefully it'll tickle the same fancy for ludicrous tasks in the name of gaming that got them to post the first few times - if not, nothing lost!

Has anyone suggested actually going to Kaysersberg for a snoop around?

I know its an awful lot of trouble to go to just to solve a card, but i was thinking that if we all pooled together some money and divided the burden of flights/trains/accomodation, we could send 1 or 2 people over there to have a look around and hopefully find Satoshi. Of course, he might not actually be there, but that would make it awfully tricky to solve the card, if he took a photo on holiday and went back home elsewhere it would be a bit cruel as we would have no hope of finding him (unless he left some kloos behind somewhere, a signed guestbook nearby, a sign where he took the picture saying "The answer is ____", or if he simply left the cube where hes standing Very Happy )

A few issues issues with this idea:
Would there be trouble deciding who goes from the list of donors?

How would we go about pooling together money from a bunch of people and giving it to whoever goes/paying for their expenses?

Anyone who went would need to have good French (and map-reading/direction skills Smile ), and free time to go of course

We might need someone who can drive in order to get to Kaysersberg.

If we did do this, and actually found Satoshi and the answer, would there be issues about who gets the 1st 10 solves if more than 10 people pooled together their money for the venture?

I had a quick look at flights. Easyjet fly from London (Stansted or Luton) to Mulhouse, which is about 50km from Kaysersberg, for between £50 - £100 return depending on how far in advance you book it. One could drive from there, or possibly take a train to Colmar, which is about 6/7km from Kaysersberg and make the rest of the way somehow.

It would be much easier/cheaper to send someone who actually lives in France, if there are any french cube hunters out there.

(I wish i had this card Smile, maybe i could sell my copy of Riemann for oodles of cash and that could fund both the purchase of the card from ebay and the trip to Kaysersberg to solve it Laughing )

I'd had the same thoughts about going to Kaysersberg to snoop around near the river or in guest books etc. Just hadn't actually got around to doing anything about it.

To add to your info, the Kaysersberg tourism site says that there is a bus from Colmar station to Kaysersberg which takes 25 mins. It runs from 6.30am to 7pm.

Wow there's been a lot of discussion since I last posted.

To be frank..I think this man's moved on. As I thought initially with this card I think it's still likely we have to use six degrees to find him..not some attempt at being Inspector Morse

I'm waiting on an email..

/me will get back to you

I've been looking on google for webcams in Kaysersberg to see if Satoshi is featured on one. Anyone want to look in case I've missed one?

Well apparently Kaysersberg has a population of 2676. Is it possible to get census records just incase he does live there?

Googled "Satoshi France" and found this.
I haven't seen this link mentioned before.

Satoshi's pictures from France. – in 2004.
Sadly, I can't locate the pictures that it applies to since it's from an old Blog page – but Jim O'Connell is not the answer. Perhaps he can eliminate another Satoshi from our search. I'll try and contact him.

another random train of thought...

kaysersberg plastics... maybe he works for the company (in any of their branches worldwide) and the fact the photo was taken in kaysersberg is the clue to the name of the company? (they also have production there)

I'm going to e-mail Jim and ask him about his Satoshi. I couldn't find any pictures of him either but it wont hurt to ask. Smile

Hi,

This probably seems weird, but I am currently playing a puzzle game; located at www.perplexcity.com, where we have to solve varying puzzle cards ranging in difficulty.

One of our puzzle cards, Billion to One, is attached. It carries a picture of a man whose name is Satoshi and the Japanese letters for "find me". This is all the information we have.

Clearly this is a needle in a haystack problem and we (myself and other players from around the world) have been googling Satoshi and one of the sites found was your blog. I couldn't find any pictures of him so I thought I'd go out on a limb and send you his pic. If you know him please could you contact me as we're really struggling to find him.

Thanks.

Susannah Plummer

Sent this basic e-mail with Satoshi card attached.

Hallo,

I just want to mention that Kaysersberg is the hometown of Albert Schweitzer, who received the nobel peace prize in 1952. Maybe the location of Kaysersberg is just a link to Schweitzer, his hospital in Lambarene etc. There may be a connection between a 'Satoshi" and the life of Schweiter.

Just my thoughts, I don´t know if´s worth something
