I have also been having less-than cheery thoughts about this card. What it boils down to is: what happens if our fella Satoshi should shuffle off this mortal coil (or indeed has already)? Has some kind of failsafe been built-in in case of this eventuality, so somehow whatever we had to do once we'd found him would trigger anyway? Or possibly (but not an idea I want to consider) is this card going to just tail off as unsolveable?

It's been bothering me for the last few days, and I know that no-one will be able to answer my ponderings, but they needed to be let out as they were making my brain ache. It goes without saying that I hope Satoshi is in the finest of health, and will have many happy years of life to come.

As you were before my morose interruption, folks.

Finding Satoshi

Everyone has touted this 6 degrees as the ONLY way to find this guy.

And if we cant convince everyone in the world that this is important (3rd, 4th and 5th degrees amounts to everyone who isnt our friends and family, meaning everyone else on the planet) that we would NEVER find him.

this isnt good thinking. In fact the whole 6 degrees thing is good in theory but is it so good in practice?

For one... Chances are the 5th degree is Mind Candy or mostly MC people anyways, So we get up to the 4th degree and hit a wall... being every employee at MC whos signed a non-disclosure agreement, where do we go from there?

... Now maybe Satoshi isnt affiliated with MC at all, maybe he is just some bloke they took a pic of in France at some point. They took down his data and did a small background check to make sure he would be mostly obscure, and went from there.

But even then the 6 degrees method is asking a lot...

It seems like it makes a LOT more sense to go to the last "known" location of this guy and work from there. Walk around Kayserberg and talk to the people. Show his picture, walk around and talk to people like he was your long lost brother. See who remembers him, see if anyone has any information on WHEN he was there. SOMONE in Kayserberg has seen or talked to this guy. He was there in broad daylight, unless the town is a ghost town, chances are somone saw him and the clues are there.

We fell into this 6 degrees thing, there ARE other ways to locate a person with only a picture and a name. Assuming he wasnt kidnapped and isnt being held in a secret place, he is probably walking around doing his dayly things.

I mean think of it in this way... Mind Candy gives us all we need to solve a puzzle on the card. We have a place, a name, and an image. (and some words) Id walk around kayserberg with Missing Persons signs, and tack them to telephone poles. walk to the police stations there, give them a copy. Walk to the general stores, show the pic there. Walk to every inn and post the pics there. If he eats and sleeps, he probably did so in Kayserberg at least once.

I've noticed in previous posts that everyone has assumed that Satoshi has taken the picture of himself.

But isn't it entirely possible that he is pointing at something??

If anyone does take a trip to Kayersburg and found his spot take a look in the opposite direction and see if there's anything to see.

cnet

I've emailed John Borland at cnet to see if he might have any interest in an article about this. He has written articles on ARGs before.

I've had similar feelings of doubt (seeing as no second level email recipients have yet used the site to send to a third level - I'm going to check over the code just one more time to make sure it's reporting that correctly though!)

What's needed is some sort of financial reward for information leading to his capt... err... whereabouts. The person who directly finds him would get the largest cut, the referrer of that person would get the next biggest and so on back up the chain, a bit like an inverted pyramid scheme, but legal Razz

As for starting our search in Kaysersberg, I agree, but I think it's far from certain that someone there will know or recognise him. He may have only been there on a day trip a number of years ago, in which case it'll take someone with a pretty good memory to recognise him.

P.S. I tried posting to the fuselage from work; I either got distracted and didn't hit the post button, or the post got deleted. I'll give it a day and try again Smile It's a bit of an unrealistic dream that J.J.Abrams will be able to help, but heck, anything's worth a shot!

im new but

ok as everyone might point out by the big 1 next to my name this is my first post here. although my team ( about 6 people ) and i have been very active with this game since we found out about it. anyway my reason for posting here is my 2 contributions to this,

1 i have gone about trying to located a pen pal as it were in kayersburg to try and further that cause,

2 i have a freind that is a millionaire, he's geeky and might be interested in the game, ( no he doesnt need the money but i said he is a millionaire that sure as hell doesnt include me ) so with that in mind im gonna try and introduce him to the game, assuming he is interested we might have found someone that doesnt mind droping the cash to fly to france and do a bit of searching in kayersburg for some clues or possibly use other methods to located satoshi.

feel free to contact me in aim or via email my stuff is listed if you have any ideas or questions

my train of thoughts are these:
1) we need to find the name of where he is ie the street, building, what he is looking at (as suggested by someone)
2) its a 6 degrees thing in which case we could never find him
3) his last name is satoshi (or written "something Satoshi" as japanese people write their names)
4) he's a famous satoshi and we just need to keep trying different famous satoshi's until we get it
5) satoshi is an anagram, metaphor, something else for who he really is
6) keysersberg is a clue to something else, like france, plastics, japanese tourists, lost people..
7) he really lives/is in keysersberg and someone has to go there or find the town records
Cool he's obviously lost his tour group as there are no other japanese people taking photos of bus stops around him... maybe we have to find his group?
9) the answer is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
kevin bacon. he knows everyone, apparently. can we email him?

tried that akitch good idea an all but before i thought about contacting my freind about possibly setting up a trip there i checked google earth. sadly however the zoom it gives us it less than pathetic............ it finds keyersburg quickly but its just not the detail quality we need. i can see the cars in my driveway where i am but keyersburg you can even make out clear buildings.

any other ideas?

If he stayed in a hotel in the area, they will have his name, home address, and even passport number! I'm not sure if we have any way of accessing that information, but he could have left a comment in a guest book.

Of course, he probably just drove 100 miles to get there, and left the same day...

Ever since pheebs posted the link to Kaysersberg Plastics site a few pages back, I've had a nagging feeling that Satoshi works for the UK branch of the company and while we're concentrating on Kaysersberg, he's been cosily ensconced in a delightful semi somewhere on the outskirts of Gloucester Very Happy

Well after more hunting than a poorly-designed PXC puzzle I found the contact details of J.J. Abrams' agent. I've sent an email pointing out the connection to his new series and asking if he'd pass the email on to Abrams. He probably won't but I tried :p

Edit: P.S. also added a Spanish and Catalan translation, thanks to Naqui Smile

I browsed the google maps of Kayserberg, but the stream/brook isnt shown, so i cant really locate the bridge he is on.

Anyone know what the street is called?

I only ask this because half the roads in the area are named funny things.

Like Solid Wood of the Vorges and Route of Wine. Odd stuff. (course babelfish is probably just spouting gibberish at me)
Maybe this is a normal road naming convention of the Area, but it leads me to wonder if the name of the road he is on is a clue, maybe?
