Ha! I never would have got that on my own, not in a million years.

I feel a tad guilty about letting you all do the working out.

Neither, I think...

13th solve - many thanks to everyone who inched closer to this, and *serious* commiserations to the guy that spelled it wrong... he must want to curl up and die right now.

And there's another clue for those who still haven't solved it yet.

Wow... 16 solves since my last post and I'm not even at work yet... darn having to go to sleep... I still don't think I get it, and now I'm paranoid that I did the misspelling... tho I hope I didn't... I'll keep busting my noggin on this later I guess... and the hints about having to know chinese really have me scared Shocked

Um...You don't really need to know chinese. At least, everything's already in this thread. It's pretty obvious once you get it. I have a good idea what the answer is, and you could send me a PM if you like. I make no guarantees, but I've got nothing to lose. I don't need the points. No access to cards, you see. Malaysia. Anyhoo, I'm not too good with hints but I could show you where to look. But like I said, it's not too complicated.

if it's what i think it is, it's not so much mis-spelled, as missing something

Then I'm not sure it's what you think it is as it is definitely mispelled in an earlier post as well as missing a

Darnitall... I know what it is but won't have the code until I get home from work! Thanks to all for hints/clues, esp edzepp.

The following does not contain the answer but a conjecture about how we were supposed to interpret the card:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Perhaps it was not Ishi that was spelled on the card, but instead the first letter was a '1' (one) so we were supposed to look at shi1, which definitely applies...
Thoughts?

Also I've found two ways of spelling it... I only have one guess left for today, so I hope I guess the right one! Shocked

Sorry, it has nothing to do with potatos or liquor, barring a bizarre accident. I'm afraid I was chasing a wild goose with that line of thought.
