i guessed it also, given the hint above about the point.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
also the background helps, if you think back to your childhood. or if you have 'artistic' kids

Yeah. Still looks like nothing to me.

Must be painfully obvious. Confused

hahaha wowzers. well I got your code. thanks, I'll be unlocked in a few hours and try it (though I could've sworn I'd tried it already... maybe i somehow mispelled or something).

sorry I just don't see it. still don't, even now that I guess I know what the answer is. I got it put together. I guess I can see it, but really... lol.

Is it just me that has that problem? :-p

Maybe yours doesn't look like mine?

I thought the answer was obvious from my effort. Here's a pic:

Well, mine didn't turn out anything like that! I'm definitely in the "stringy piece of cardboard" crowd.

if you can't remember as far back as your childhood, perhaps something you may have seen more recently?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
see if you can spot the difference, but don't stare too hard, as you may get double vision

Had a rubbish day at work yesterday (during which I photocopied/enlarged this card), got back home, cut the shape out, stuck it together and sewed it up. It really cheered me up - brilliant card! My favourite so far, I reckon. Very Happy

By the way, it makes things a lot easier if you make the pinholes before assembly.

If only "Some Assembly Required" had boxes you could cut out and make instead of just the 3rd angle projections!

Brilliant card!

I've got a spare code from the card I cut up, if anyone wants to PM me for it? First come, first served. Gone to GuyIncognito Smile

oh, so the ONLY way it works is with string. Just connecting the dots makes it look like a ladder. Confused

Mmm - I've just solved this today and IMHO it doesn't look that good with string/thread either.

And it looked even worse this afternoon after I asked my son where my little Perplexian cube had gone off the arm of the sofa, and he said
Ur, I was going to tell you that it had slipped down the side where I am sitting, but I didn't quite get round to it...

So my carefully crafted 3D embroidery was squashed hedgehog-like back into 2 dimensions and looked even less recognisable than before... Cursing

I'm going to try this over the weekend; can someone who's done it confirm: (hidden just in case)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Do you go 1 - 3 - 5 ... and 2 - 4 - 6 ... as two separate threads, or just 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 ...? I suspect not the latter since "2" and "3" are on the same face, and wouldn't really contribute to anything. If it's done in two stages, does it look better if you use different colour threads?

Cheers.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One thread, 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 etc. You'll find that odds are 'in' and evens are 'out'. I wonder though, from what you've written, whether you've missed a key stage of the puzzle you need to do before you make with the steamstressness?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you mean folding it into a box, then (assuming that's what you do do), then I was intending to do that. The question was really whether it's "in" at "1", across the "cube-space" to "2", round the "outside" from "2" and back in at "3".... got to go now, so I probably won't see anything more until after I've tried.

FYI, this can be solved 2D, which is how I did it:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Recognizing that it made a cube when assembled, I cut out the upper right and lower left squares, rotated them each 90deg and reattached them to the middle square with tape. This made it into a "+" shape instead of the original backward "Z" shape.

Then before connecting any dots, I first shifted the ones on the 4 "side" squares horizontally or vertically toward the center square or "bottom" side.

Then I completed all the odd-to-even dots (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc) to get the image.

Funny thing was that after all that, I couldn't figure out what it looked like. After a while, I showed it to my 6-year old son, who recognized it immediately! Duh!
