Interesting Tidbits - Research on Diana & Witches

Using the key words, time; fate, serpents/dragons, witch, dream(s), myth. One can find some interesting stuff on Google, namely:

Artemis is also know as Diana:
Quote:

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto and the twin sister of Apollo. She is a nature goddess but also a goddess of the hunt and wild animals, she is often depicted with a stag or a hunting dog. She was the huntress of the gods and the protector of the young, and like her brother Apollo she hunted with silver arrows. Artemis was a virgin goddess and a goddess of chastity, but later in her guise as the Roman goddess "Diana", she was not so chaste.

More about Diana:

Mythology

From Geoffrey Smith
Quote:

Among the goddesses I studied, Diana was and remains my favorite. She has long been associated both with forests and both the waxing and full moon. She was also considered an aspect of the Trivia or Triple-Goddess: The Maiden (Diana), Mother (Selene) and Crone (Hecate). Diana was known from ancient times as Queen of the Witches.

Quote:

Hecate was often depicted as a young maiden with three faces, each pointing in a different direction, a role in which she was the earth-spirit that haunted wherever three paths joined. As the "goddess of three forms" she was Luna (the moon) in heaven, Diana (Artemis) on earth, and Hecate of the underworld.

Talking about Witches and time and fate:

Quote:

*The dwarf claims to be an immortal sent to Oz to prevent the Grimmerie from returning to Earth. With his Clock of the Time Dragon, he seems to Elphaba to either be able to control fate or predict it.

* The Grimmerie (derived from grimoire) is a book of Magic that originated on Earth but was taken to Oz by a wizard to prevent it from being used for evil. It is sought by the Wizard of Oz and is the reason he traveled to Oz. It ends up in the possession of Elphaba.

* The Magical Elixir is a bottle of potion that Elphaba keeps with her throughout her life. It was presented to Elphaba's mother once who took it and had bizarre dreams. It may have been the Wizard who gave it to Elphaba's mother and fathered Elphaba at that time. Elphaba takes some of the Elixir late in life and has many prophetic dreams. Some are so disturbing to her that she rarely sleeps for the rest of her life. This may contribute to her loss of wits near the end of her life. This is the object Dorothy takes to the Wizard as proof of Elphaba's death.

* The Clock of the Time Dragon is a travelling show which contains many magicked tiktok puppets that act out prophetic scenes. It is the center of the pleasure faith religion and is accompanied by the dwarf. Elphaba is born inside the Time Dragon, and receives the revelation that the Wizard is her father from the Dragon.

And we have mention of Grettir at http://www.mythosphere.org/flames.html
which might have reference to the Saga mentioned on the AGP history page.

Quote:
Some Norse Sagas live between Christianity and Paganism (Njáls saga is an example; see also Norse mythology.) Aside from Christian influence, the world of the sagas is strongly pagan, and fate plays a central role, a key line in Grettis saga

Taken from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_saga

And here are the Grettir sagas http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/gre/index.htm

EDIT - embedded some of the giant links. Please use the embedded link tag ([url]). Long links stretch the forum structure wide, plus, using embedded links allows you to describe the links while also linking to them. Super efficient! Plus then I don't have to edit posts Razz - SG

Speaking of Diana she has not been mentioned much at all this game. Does anyone think she will play a part later or maybe she is just not important (in a direct sense, I know everyone is of importance) this time?
