The complete explanation for this card is very simple really :

(Spoilered in case people would rather not know the answer)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1) A world-record circumnavigation, and another subsequent attempt beating the previous one
2) Two world record transatlantic solo efforts
3) A tickertape celebration on return to the UK for at least one of the attempts (the small floaty lines)
4) Roaming Identity refers to an Identity (ie the person's name) who rather likes Roaming the world.

See this page for the full details - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellen_MacArthur#Records

Lovely card really Smile

maybe that bolded stuff should be spoilerized??

I agree. Not got the card, but read the thread for the small writing thing, and it's very hard not to see the answer for this from the emboldened hints. On the other hand, feel free to do the same in the Shuffled thread.

/me Worshippy teh card designer!

I just sat down to have a look at it properly for the first time, saw from Dom that there was useful info on the solve page, and *ping* it falls into place in one guess.

And so good to see one of my greatest living heroes recognised with a card!

time

I'm pretty sure that 1.56.29 is a time of 1 hour, 56 minutes and 29 seconds (which I know also can convert into longitude, I read that book.)

This may be a record or a time from a race. And I think the abbreviatio/letters stand for the race or possibly the starting point of the race.

Short for a sailing race (since this is a sailing card). But perhaps someone knows of a famous two hour sailing race?

Also too short to be a marathon time (the records all seem to be just over two hours).

What other races take about that long? And do their names anagram from the teeny tiny letters?

1.56.29

There have been lots of guesses and conversation about the 1.56.29 on the card, it doesn't seem to fit in with anything and neither does the otpaaworld part, it is generally assumed to be part of one of the meta puzzles but everyone seems to be struggling.

The only thing I came up with was :

Quote:
1.56-29 Perl module for reading configuration files
perl-AppConfig rpm build for : SuSE 9.X. For other distributions click here.

Name : perl-AppConfig
Version : 1.56 Vendor : SuSE Linux AG, Nuernberg, Germany
Release : 29 Date : 2004-10-02 05:02:10
Group : Development/Libraries/Perl Source RPM : perl-AppConfig-1.56-29.src.rpm
Size : 204342
Packager : http://www_suse_de/feedback
Summary : Perl module for reading configuration files and parsing command line arguments
Description :
AppConfig is a Perl module for managing application configuration
information. It maintains the state of any number of variables and
provides methods for parsing configuration files and command line
arguments.

Don't know if that means anything to anyone ? I also thought of a race with a time of above but couldn't find one !

I've taken a screen cap of the first JP film at the point where 'Life... err...find's a way' is said. As you can see the time for this DVD is at a different time to that on the card, unless 1 was supposed to mean the 1st film of the trilogy, at 0.29.56

What a great film!
