Can we start to put together a list of failed attempts on this one?

I personally think it is between 280 and 310.

I have tried today 286, 306 and 308.

I thought I had it in 307 but it's not the answer.

I'm a little reluctant to whether we should post a list of failed solves as this card with a bit of guestimation can be 'brute forced' which is not good.

Hi everyone

It's 3:32 BST and I have got up to get a hot drink for my sore throat (ah), but I could not resist seeing if this carrrrghd has been solved yet.

Can you look at the following screen shots from the flash version and tell me if you think that they are both illegal (i.e. you will get caught). There is a subtle difference in interpretation of the rules here - e.g. do you have to be startled like a bunny rabbit in the glare of a torch or just be close to the square the guard is going to look along...

I think the second one is pretty obviously a no-no, but what about the first screen-shot? Debatable...

Crying or Very sad

It's 3:36 now, gosh I type fast.

I think they are both Illegal; looking at the card, the path that the 'visible' area falls upon is more square. I guess the flash is an interpretation thing. So personally I think it will be an illegal move anywhere in the rectangle between the guard and the end of his vision.

Although I could be wrong.

Thanks, yes of course, you are quite right. Had I not been groggy at half three in the morning I might have noticed that on the card.

Can't we just ask the nice guards to press the buttons for us - after all, they are going that way anyway...

I think the camera has some use in this puzzle. I'm sure it's possible to squeeze pst it by going straight up, then right at the start. I'm wondering if it's meant to make us thing we can't get past when in actual fact we can.

Yeah, I kinda screwed up there. The views are more square rather than triangles on the flash. I'll edit that soonish, since (luckily) the cones will be easy to change.

EDIT: I believe I've gotten a quicker time than 281, but it wasn't the answer.

I have created a flash movie for people who are having trouble looking at the guards movement, this could be a bit of a spoiler if you use your cursor as the person.

You could, in theory, sidle along the wall under the camera, as its line/cone of sight misses the actual wall. I suspect that's not an option they're considering though. As well as the fact there's no switches near it.

I do like the flash thing.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I can't actually sit and work it out with that, cos it strains my eyes.
I've got
wait 9 seconds for white to pass
28 seconds to first switch

Which is as far as I can get *rubs eyes*

I have got to the first switch in 31 seconds (plus 2 to press it)...

Edit: make that 30 (plus 2 to press it)...

Not sure where your 28 seconds is coming from?

PS I have shaved an entire second off my previous best score by not pressing one of the switches the first time I got near it, and pressing it the second time I went past it instead. But this was not accepted as the answer either...

I can get to the first button in 36 seconds best time. (including 2 second button press)

To get to it at any less than that the only way I can see is that you have to break the rule saying you can only move to a square when the guard has gone and can't see you. Because you get really close behind the guard. And is that allowed? in reality probably but in this game not so sure.. rules are too ambiguous for that.

Oh and for the list the answer is not 300 seconds

Okay this is the first part of my attempt to solve this card:

It does mean that you slot in very close behind the guard.

In some senses this doesn't matter as the next part of my attempt involves waiting a long time for the pink guard to come around.

But I think you can follow on to the next square right behind a guard since they "only ever look the way they are facing".
