#135 [Flame] Beadwork

Sorry no scan, and it's needed for this one.

Text reads:
In Perplex City, even seemingly random strings of beads are often following a very specific pattern deemed pleasing to the eye, or to the intellect...

Can you detect the pattern this string is following and discern what the next five beads will be?

In the picture is a string of beads with I think 10 colours:
BLACK
CLEAR
SKY BLUE
PINK
BLUE
RED
PURPLE
GREEN
YELLOW
ORANGE
It's really hard to tell for some of them though.

Agreed some are hard to tell...but from the solve page is a list of the 10 colours...

blue
red
black
clear
yellow
pink
green
purple
orange
turquoise

So far no idea

wel so far 8 have solved it, so it isn't impossible, but I'm guessing based on 10 colours that it's a number sequence.

if each bead represents 0-9, then the pattern could seem random as it went from units to tens to hundreds etc.

it cant be primes as there would be no need for 0

perhaps it would be easier to find series to match to the beads?

It must be significant that at the start there is a green bead on its own, then a block then the series of beads.
integer - decimal point - series ?
A mathematical constant?
Something like pi (although pi doesn't seem to fit)

Hint -

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sometimes the answers are irrational

Bigger hint -

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Often there's gold at the end of the rainbow

With apologies for the rubbish nature of my hints Wink

the hints were good enough.

I'm kicking myself now, I'd looked at that days ago but couldn't match it up as I took the big black bead as the start...doh! Your clus made me look again.

Brain Faliure

I have looked at this for hours now and despite the clues I can't work it out.

Maybe Im just having one of those days......

Can anyone guide me in the right direction.I tried putting the colours of the rainbow as the answer, but thats obviously not right.

Am I looking for 5 differnent colours or 5 the same?

Something to do with gold? Am i looking for a patten, do I need to list all the colours of the beads? Is the way the beads are layed out anything to do with it?

Any help, even a little bit, I would be very grateful for.

Thanks to anyone that can help. Smile

Oh and by the way, is the hint line not working? I have tried it a few times and never got a response. I also emailed Mind Candy, they haven't replied either.

Look again at Uhtoff's clues.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
What word stands out in the first one? That's a good place to start.

Would it be possible that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the gold is replaced by yellow?

Big Thumbs Up to badbarry!!!!

Thank you ever so much badbarry. Very Happy I looked at the puzzle from a different perspective, took your advice, and what do ya know-I got it right!

I thought it was quite hard though as there was no clues or anything on the card.I suppose it is a blue...........

That took me ages! The hints here really helped me figure out which pattern I was looking for, thanks. But what really tripped me up was trying to figure out which beads were which colour - some of them are so hard to tell! So if you think you're on the right lines but are getting it wrong, you may well be just mixing up some of your colours.

Aye getting the difference between orange, yellow and clear isn't easy, some of them are more obvious that others so you might need to check further along the string. Wink
