I didn't take it as the original poster was complaining about not getting very many Blacks and Silvers. The interesting thing here is the fact that if you have a high number of silvers, you have a low number of blacks and vice versa. In other words, the distribution is NOT random by any means.

Not enough information on the number of Black dupes.

1:2(Single packs open up the posability of luck).

One in three packs is a premium pack which will contain a Black or a Silver. So no one should get a box with no Blacks AND no Silvers and no one will get much more than 12 combined. Also, seeing as there are 10 Blacks and 10 Silvers, a single box will not get you a complete set (no matter how lucky you are). And finally, if you want to play the luck game, you should buy individual packs from different boxes. That way you have a chance at a full set with only 20 packs purchased (maybe even fewer if you get one of those phantom milti-black/one black-one silver packs)!!! A very very small chance.

Why would you need a gnome? Machines can be set up to package the cards in any way you want.

Would you believe that gnomes are still much cheaper than a machine, although the government's act concering the treatment of mystical creatures (#34218/67e) which is due to come in at the end of 2008 is going to change all this. Apparently it's got the backing of the 'fairies are sort of people too' group... you know, the ones responsible for the mystic showers of rainbow-striped paint that we've been having recently? Shocking that they have to resort to terrorist campaigns.

Hang on, I've got a serious point here somewhere.

Ah.

Yes. This is the first wave where I've had two cards of the same colour in the same pack. I think I might be imagining things. Can someone else confirm?

In pure I.4 packs I got two reds in one and two purples in another. But a while ago, when I bought a I.123 box, when I counted the cards from it, I had 37 greens and 35 yellows, so I must have had one in that box as well.

Loads, every colour from purple down. Thought I'd had a pair of reds or a pair of oranges in previous waves through. Not totally sure of that, however.

I received 3 out of 8 pure Wave 4 packs with IDENTICAL Contents.

Right down to the order of the cards...

Those sneaky gnomes.

I bought 2 boxes, and got extremely lucky, the dupes were fairly evently split and not loads and loads of 2 or 3 of the same card, I also managed to pick up all 10 blacks and silvers and also got 3 silver duplicates but no black duplicates.....either way I was pretty happy with the outcome.

Just have to stick a load onto Ebay now.....

Is that a result of the newly-reformed Gnome Office? Rolling Eyes

I'm pretty sure I bought 2 packs of 1-3 a few weeks/months ago and had 3 blacks out of it. But a lot has happened since then and I don't note these things down, so maybe it was all another pesky whipsmart-induced dream.

Jaffa's World have a little statement on their website explaining it all. (By the way they're very good-they messed up my order but sorted it out very quickly and also compensated me....so go them)

More Data

432 cards, 16+17=33 blacks, no silvers

(and for those keeping track of this - one box was 20% wave 4, the other 22%)

Each box of 1-4 provided a virtually complete set of waves 1-3 plus maybe a half to 2/3 of wave 4 - that is also very un-random.

In my wave 3 pure packs (36 packs) there were 3 or 4 packs with the same double greens. Other than that (which might have been a gnome error) this is the first I've heard of it. I wonder if that "ebay scamming" crap is responsible for all the changes.

Yeah, but they're still confused about what "random" means.

In all honestly it's not the most intuative of concepts.

blacks and silvers

i had 3 pure wave 4 boxes, i got 15 silvers, 10 +5 doubles, and 24 blacks, 9 + 15 doubles.

so i guess that's 1 in 7 packs to get a silver, and 1 in 4 packs to get a black and 1 in 3 to get a black or silver

enough stats yet??

ok.. so after I looked through my cards I realized I had not one, but THREE packs that had two blacks in (for a total of fifteen blacks = one in three packs plus the three "phantom cards") not a single silver.

What strikes me is that other trading card games have a more predictable distribution, leaving me to only conclude that either they have some gnome who works at the printers and works out which cards to put in which packs or they are as random as can be?

To me they are NOT random.

Me too. So bad that when I opened my packs (from a sealed box), looking at the first card, I could tell you which card came next.

Hear me out here. If its a troutable offense, then trout me. If my sniveling isn't right, then smack me.....

It looks to me as if MC has changed thier distriubtion of the card order (as in putting the rarer card in the 4th position to deter cheating), however their "random distribution" is not so random.

For every case I have bought, I have opened each pack and written down the order of the cards.
I suggest the next couple of packs bought, you do the same, and see the pattern.

The ONLY bonus I could see to the cards being in order is the series of numbers written in small print. Having this order could possibly help in the meta puzzle within the puzzle.

But outside of that, I am extremely disappointed. I had alot more fun opening my wave 3 case. And I even noticed a "random" pattern to the packaging then.

Sorry this post is so long, but the ratio of 1:3 is pretty good. However, I am extremely unhappy at the fact that out of 36 packs, I hit that ratio dead on, and got 2 silvers with 9 blacks.. Whereas others here have received the opposite and got more silvers than blacks. (sorry - yes, silvers are rare...I understand that, BUT its not considered rare for the other guy who spent the same amount of money for all those silvers.
It totally takes the fun out of this whole thing. Why should I go buy more cards when I could spend $150 paying my credit card payment instead?

Whatever the situation concerning the cards is, I'm quite sure it's just best to a bit stoic about it all.
