WAY off topic AngBa... But, in your sig you mention MrazFan, that wouldn't happen to be a reference to Jason Mraz, would it? I thought I was the only person who actually listened to him, heh.

Ok, bear with me here, I'm going out on a VERY TINY limb here (by tiny meaning I could crash to the ground at any second cuz this is WAAAY out there)....

A couple of days ago I was hit up by ikeanwhistle :
Quote:
13:59] ikeanwhistle: Hello [Offline Message (Sat Aug 19 06:57:52 2006)]
[13:59] ikeanwhistle: I really need to talk to you. [Offline Message (Sat Aug 19 06:58:01 2006)]
[13:59] ikeanwhistle: It's very I-M-P-O-R-T-A-N-T [Offline Message (Sat Aug 19 06:58:13 2006)]
[13:59] ikeanwhistle: You must get back to me. [Offline Message (Sat Aug 19 06:58:44 2006)]
[13:59] theangrybanana: I'm here - please tell me what you need

Today, I googled our dear friends name and came up with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ike_Anwhistle who was a very minor character in the Lemony Snicket series. Well, I know nothing about this series, but found out that he is a member of a club called the V.F.D, which was all about using codes, the most common being the Sebold code, which involves using every 11th word, and the first word after a ring sound.

...here's where I'm going WAY out here - using this Sebold code, if you read the chat transcript, the 11th word in the unread messages I received is I-M-P-O-R-T-A-N-T.

Could this be a clue? Could this be a key? Like I said it's a long shot, but it's something...

(admins: as our new friend has yet to appear back online, if this needs to be moved to the "news and rumors" as a possible new arg, as we really have no way of knowing if it's tied to JF right now, that's fine - also, I NEVER get randomly hit up online, and in just starting this and both of my profiles that are listed here being used, I'm assuming that it's part of JF)

And Snic - Sure is Jason, I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE him!!!! Own every CD (but the rare 1st one that I'd kill for) and have traveled the country to see him in concert 3 or 4 times Very Happy

There was an ARG around Lemony Snicket last year, might be someone doing a continuation on that one.

Got another cryptic clue from our friends in Synthesis, he logged in and gave me this link then logged off:

http://www.immersionunlimited.com/index.php?topic=2595.0

Googling the line will give you this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://hcgtv.com/item/524

From a song called:
JEAN
(Rod McKuen)

So another song clue released a little while after a new code is revealed. Hm. Any ideas on this one? I, for one, am stumped.

EDIT: And it's actually up in Travis' blog, too. No explanation, no length, just the clue itself. Almost like Synthesis has access to Travis' blog...

Son of EDIT: Providing a link the PMs provided me. Under the circumstances, I figure this is the kind of out-of-the-curtain thing that's okay. http://www.immersionunlimited.com/index.php?topic=2596.0 For those that don't want to read the thread, basically, the Travis Poore found in the really real world, the fire fighter, is in fact real and OOG. So emails shouldn't be sent to him or to the fire department in question.

Well, a lot of colours are mentioned, it could mean that we're on the right lines with the descendin black... What if this is actually HTML colour coding?

That seems like a good possibility. Does anyone know any programs we could feed the numbers into? I do think that this thing is a picture or an image of some kind, what with the big deal Synthesis makes about seeing the whole picture. I just can't for the life of me figure out what it could possibly be.

I've been writing little scripts to turn the numbers into pictures in various ways. So far nothing looks promising to me. Having more people think that this is the right method though has inspired me to start writing again.

Tried:

Each number their own shade of gray.
Each two numbers their own shade of gray.
Each three numbers their own shade of gray.
4,5,6

Various ways of turning the numbers into actual colors instead of gray.

If it's related to the various ways of specifying a color in HTML, it's a pretty clever conversion method. Nothing straight-forward gives me anything I can recognize.

Edit: I've also tried basically all of the above methods both modulo and multiplied by the two number pair at the end.

Just an observation for what it's worth...

I was looking at Elferian's link (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/38480570/) and still don't see the monkey-man or luggage - but when I squint, line 17 seemed to jump out at me more than any others:

99699 09099 03090 90990 90700 96099 09099 77090 70900 90907 00990 90909 69

That means that there are more 0's and 9's... Not being a code-wiz, could they have thrown all of the other lines in for a very simple message?

the 11th line is:
Till the stars fall around me and find me alone.

I think you just drop numbers off.

The lyrics are from a movie called, "The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie," or something like that. Credit goes to L.Boomer on IU for pointing this out, but it could be referring to what we need to do for the code. Perhaps dropping all the prime numbers in it?

Assuming that we're treating the five-digit groups as a single number, and the two-digit groups as their own, distinct numbers, few of the five digit numbers are primes, though certainly some are. (Working on figuring out exactly which ones.) Only one of the two-digit groups is prime: 89.

If that signifies that the line as a whole is important and/or the only true line in the group:

84698 77793 98485 79083 75647 56767 67676 76977 42609 76774 21848 76475 89

I have to go eat supper with an ex co-worker. I don't immediately see how to turn this into a message, but I'm excited we've turned that HUGE puzzle into something that seems bite-sized. The problem with it before was there was so much information that you could find enough to make almost any theory seem plausible.

I expect to get un-hungry, come back here and see the solution. Don't let me down! Cool [/spoiler]
