 		I think there are errors in what we have. I checked my number block against those posted elsewhere and they are the same. However, when decoding it completely falls a part in places.

 		*blink* I come here to answer how I found all of the primes and there's like 10 messages I didn't get emails about solving it?!

In the interest of completeness: I wrote a little program to filter out all of the numbers that were divisible by 2, 3, 5 and 7, which got rid of 99% of the non-primes. I then used http://primes.utm.edu/lists/small/10000.txt to filter out the rest by hand.

Me and some of my buddies used to infuriate teachers by taking the "easy way out" and writing programs to solve really really hard math problems instead of solving them the "right" way. That may make me better or worse at some of these problems, I suppose. When it does work it's usually much faster. Wink

I'm trying to do this one myself and it just isn't working.

The letter 'a' is (for the lack of a better way to write this):

The mistake on our part was that zeroes are considered as prime in our mathematics. But once again, it took someone outside of the ken of the normal Euclidean logical thinking to understand the rationale behind the message. The timetable has been horribly mangled due to this.

Travis is still a wildcard in the equation. We are worried that the effects of his discourse with your people has also rendered you unpredictable and possibly dangerous to the sucess of this phase of the operation.

As an aside, let me take some time to explain about Travis. He indeed is an honest law enforcement type who made the mistake of stumbling upon the non-Euclidean thinking patterns which characterize Synthesis. The thinking patterns utilized by us allows feats of logical thinking and future course manipulation unheard of in your society. This is no feat of magic but merely the logical application of psychological patterns of thinking and event pathways. This is somewhat analogous to that of a weather forecaster, with the exception that we utilize a far larger database with a proportionately larger set of rules. The end goals that are striven for cannot be said to be good or evil, they tend to be for good at the expense of seemingly large eveils which are actually quite small compared to what is being avoided.

Travis Poore became one of the few people able to throw off the validity of the data required for operations, not only for sheer unrepdictability but the effects he was having on the data. This makes him far more dangerous than any common criminal could ever be. That is why the highest priority we placed on finding him and having his effect neutralized.

Our disappointment was in the inability of your group to be able to solve the message coding within a timely manner. The message contained not only a communication for all of you, it was also a teaching method for the understanding of Synthesis in general. This gives rise to worry that future lessons and communications may be invalidated by the time the message is recieved. The message contents are now fairly invalid, due to the timeliness issue.

We attribute this failure by us pushing ahead the lessons too fast, hoping to be able to speed your group towards understanding of the logical and ethical values espoused by Synthesis. Please understand that this was done on a fast tracked basis as time is of the essence. As said before, the effects of Travis continue to range farther and farther into unwanted courses of action.

Our next attempts to be able to further you along the path will be to utilize a mixture of puzzles, with attributes from the common methods, combined with the Synthesis methods. Hopefully, this will help speed your education to the point of becoming an asset towards the operations.

At this point, there is no issue in explaining the goal of this operation. The actual operation began over 20 years ago that our effects were required. During that time, we were able to calculate a total of 249 different possible futures within a 25 year span. Over half of the outcomes would see the first five planets of our solar system destroyed. Not necessarily by a war, but by other factors, not all of them being technical. Certain friendships had to be cultivated, certain people removed from this sphere of influence, etc. The methods were also calculated for the short and long term effects.

Travis has defined us as terrorists. That is not a correct assumption. Criminals is another incorrect assumption, though we have had to utilize such methods toward other operations.

The closest analogy may be that of a cultural jammer with a higher purpose. The higher purpose embodies both the short and long term welfare. Our methods straddle the line, so we are neither devils nor angels.

Looks and popular mythos can be decieving, both in real life and in fiction. On a fictional basis, for those who have seen the movie Gremlins, Mogwai is portrayed as a cute and cuddly creature. Yet for those who have researched and read the book, Mogwai was far more analogoous to an Oriental priest or elder, a wiseman. A real life example would be in wolves and deer. Deer are popularized as gentle and cuddly creatures while wolves are considered as vicious carrion hunters. The reverse is far more correct, with deer normally taking on the behavior of vicious sociopaths while wolves maintain a very strong family bond and pack bahaviors.

Y'know, for a group that doesn't seem to want us working with Travis, they're certainly doing a terrific job of making friends with us. I mean really, there's nothing more friendly than a steady dose of condescension.
