There is no "official version" of IRC to download. While it is true that a lot of people use mIRC (which is shareware), there are a number of programs to choose from. It is a bit like chosing between internet explorer, firefox, safari, netscape or opera for web browsing.

Free IRC chat clients include
Trillian This program also handles AIM, MSN, YIM and ICQ
IceChat

There is also the unfiction java IRC chat interface, which won't require you to pay a fee or install anything on your computer.

I'm a big fan of Nebula I don't believe there's a Windows version out there unfortuanetly. But, if you happen to be a Linux user give it a shot.

 		Just use one of the many free IRC clients out there? mIRC I thought was free, but.. besirc (I think it is?), or I use trillian which has an IRC plugin sort of thing.

Don't worry about it. I personally don't think you can be owned when giving good advice, regardless of whether it's been said before or not.

Also, I think mIRC is free for 30 days. After that, you have to register, which costs money. Admittedly, not a lot of money, but I don't currently have a job and owe my parents some $$, so I really can't afford to be buying things, heh.

Actually, even after the 30 day period, you just have to wait extra 15 seconds before you can close the opening dialog, it still doesn't cost you a cent. (unless I've cracked mine and just don't remember it..: )

Yeah, I just logged into my account - haven't been there in months, and I just had to wait for a while before it connected me.. I'm game for an IRC chatroom...

You don't *have to* register at all. I still think of mIRC as shareware. You download the complete version for free, you use it for free, and if you like it enough you can pay to officially register your ownership of it. I waited 5 years to finally get around to paying the modest $25 fee. I don't remember any delay upon launch, other than an opening reminder box, which isn't any worse than the splash screen for Adobe products and their painfully long load time.

 		Something has changed. I was informed that there was to be another clue posted very early this week. Suddenly, all contact was gone. This may be a result of the events of last weekend. But from the general impression I was given through private messages, this won't just be dropped. I'm going to assume that a lengthy evaluation of what has changed in the game is now occuring, and that once it is over, the game will be back on track.

 		Yeah, seems like they now have one PM less, and some of the puzzles ned to be redone because of that.

 		God, I hope not. I wish there was some way to get a message to the head PM, if it meant ripping open my personal curtain and quitting the game. Just in case the head PM reads this thread and is considering firing him:

Please don't fire him. I mean, I guess I'll understand if you have to, but I really hope you don't. The reason I'm attracted to this game is the amazing puzzles he writes, and the way he knows the characters. If there are other reasons to let him go other than ones related to me, then do what you have to. But I won't be happy if something that I'm not upset about, and he's apologized for, cost this game an amazing PM. If there's anything I could say to help his case, PM me here or at IU. Please.

No PM who didn't love the game he was involved in would take such care to fix his mistake. Don't hold my error of judgment against him, me, or this game.
