IT LIIIIIIIVES!

*coughs* Sorry. Ahem. My binary message worked. I got this back:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
01110000 01110010 01101111 01100011 01110101 01110010 01100101 01100100 00100000 01110111 01101000 01100001 01110100 00111111

which, when translated, reads:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
procured what?

So...we're close. I'm thinking the answer is the monetary thing. Gonna reply with that.

EDIT: Okay, so I sent Denarius in binary, and this is what I got back. I've already translated it from the binary:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
this is denarius? how is the operation going? you have not reported in some time.

So I'm going to pretend to be Denarius. The problem is I'm not exactly sure how Denarius would reply to that. If I knew what operation Denarius was undertaking for (I'm assuming) Woden, I could fake it, but...

(moderator broke up solid line of binary into chunks, to prevent super-wide side scrolling of the page -- catherwood)

I'm guessin the operation has not been going well if Denarius has not reported in a while. I think we should identify who you are talking to first. Perhaps ask them to identify themselves before you give the update on the operation. This will buy us some time to find out more about the operation.

Maybe send them back:
"Identify yourself before continuing with communication updates.
Verify the following for security -- in light, _ _ _ _ _, in death, _ _ _ _"

Perhaps it is Penny?

That's a good idea. Better than what I ended up sending last night, although I don't think my message will do any damage. Here's what I sent:

i fear i don't have much to report at this time. i have been busy. have you any news?

Hmmm... interesting.

The most Norse mythology I'm familiar with is the Marvel Thor (or maybe the Odin/Raiden Espers in FFVI), but I think I'll keep an eye on this thing, looks like you guys are hard on it!

Hi,

I'm the PM. I feel uncomfortable doing this and I really wish I didn't have to, but I do.

Due to personal reasons (a death in the family), I'm afraid I must put the game on hold temporarily. I know coming out from "behind the curtain" this early is generally looked down upon, but I felt that leaving you guys scratching your heads would be a bigger crime.

I can't say when exactly I'll be able to finish this, but I definitely will. This game will not implode. If there is still interest in it when I'm ready to continue, I will see this game through to its end. Keep your eyes on the blog, because when it is updated that will mark the game's return.

I'm really sorry about this, but I have no other choice.

Thanks for playing,
"Odina"

PS,
You didn't read this.

Anyone know what the "Eyes of Woden" is?

I've been waiting for this to come back forEVER! So totally excited that this has returned, glad to see the project was not abandoned in light of the sad events in the PMs rl.

Now to refresh my memory....

QUICK RECAP

Sorry for the triple posting here!

I was trying to catch up and found that it was hard for me to get a grip on the info in game up to this point, so I'd thought I'd post a quick review of the game to this point. I hope I haven't offended anyone by leaving out their contributions to the game up until now and hopefully this summary makes sense to new players. I've included spoilers for some of the information, but as I didn't want to spoilerize the entire post, I've left all of the sites unspoilerized. So, just a warning, THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN SPOILERIZED

The game began when aim screenname Hermod timeless directed audioslave to a video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZZ4f6GIvcY

watching the video led us to this site (given at the end of the video):
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com
the following was found in the source:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
c3BlYWsgdGhlIG5hbWUgb2YgdGhlIGhhbW1lciBjbGFkIGluIGxpZ2h0ICsgLmh0b

Base 64 translates this to: speak the name of the hammer clad in light + .ht

Which lead us to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/mjolnir.htm

clicking thru the story and then, once reaching the end and clicking back will reveal the story in the correct order. The final back button leads us to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/maria.htm

which contains a link to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/problems.htm

the source contained the following:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Mank valkyrjur Vi_ris nefna

translates to "Let me recite the names of Odin's Valkyries" and is from Snorri's edda

This lead Saevitia to theorize that new pages would be found using the names of Valkyries.

The following names led to new pages:

svipul
skuld
hrist
mist
herja
geiravor
goll
gunnr
herfjotur
geironul
hrund
geirdriful
skalmold

gathering images from each of these pages to form an equation, which Cassandra solved:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We already have all of the equation bits we need from the 13 valkyrie subpages.

1) 87-68=19
2) 51-36=15
3) 4x4=16
4) 1x0=0
5) 9+9=18
6) 100/5=20
7) 36/4=9

Using the [use]/replace instructions on the svipul.htm page (and noting that the bracketed numbers add up to 13, which is the number of letter blanks) generates the following list:

19-19-19-5-16-1-1-18-20-20-9.

Or SSSEPAARTTI.

Leading to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/separatists.htm

Grifter_7 then discovered:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/vindfell.htm

Apparently, the vindfell page led us to a blog (although I have not been able to find the connection) :
http://theyggdrasilreport.blogspot.com/

A new post on the blog around the 9th of August led to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/tanais.htm
with this in the source:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
<title> what am i? </title>
...
Vanir, not Æsir

After some research by Grifter_7

The rainbow on tanais.htm represents a bridge between Midgard and Vanheim. In Norse Mythology the Bifrost Rainbow was the bridge between Midgard and Asgard.

Leading us to:
http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/bridge.htm

the binary on the bottom of the image translates to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
eyes of wden

leading to:
http://eyesofwoden.atspace.com/

a number of emails were sent to eyesofwodenSPLATgmail.com without much success.

jlr1001 noticed that certain letters on the bridge page were darker than others. The letters seemed to spell out "end has procured"

Esteed finally had success when he emailed "the end has procured" in binary to the above address. He received, in binary, "procured what?" to which he responded, "Denarius." Esteed then received, from eyesofwoden, "this is denarius? how is the operation going? you have not reported in some time."

After an unfortunate hiatus, Hermod's blog was updated yesterday and the game is back!

Great summary, Hyex. Just want to clarify one point:

The connection to the blog was originally discoved at IU through googling (I think), but as jlr1001 points out the blog URL is hidden in a comment within an included CSS file on http://theyggdrasilreport.atspace.com/vindfell.htm.

Ok, looks like we're missing something. The game is back but we've already hit a dead end. i've sent an email to eyesofwodenSPLATgmail.com. I've commented in hermod's blog. Anyone have any thoughts on what to do next?

I've done the same, but perhaps the game really isn't back yet? Confused

Things also seemed stalled right before the game went on pause, so maybe we're just in the continuation of the stall.

For what it's worth, I looked up some stuff about the "eyes of Odin" (since "eyes of Woten" only hits the atspace site in question) and there are two characters in the Ragnorok anime called the Eyes of Odin. They can transform into crows.

I've also tried emailing various messages in binary, including the one that Esteed used to get a response.

I definitely think it's worth doing research on eyes of woden, so you've got me beat there. New pages seem to be found by applying what knowledge we have about norse mythology, so perhaps we just need to hit on the right word to see more pages at the eyesofwoden atspace page.

Yeah, I think that may be what we need to do. In Ragnorok (which is actually manhwa -- oops), the eyes of Odin or "Beholders" are "Hugnin and Munin, two women who are able to transform into crows."

I tried their names as files, but didn't get anywhere. I haven't looked yet to see if they have actual Norse or Anglo-Saxon precedents, but that might be the next place to look. At the very least, their role as essentially secret agents seems to fit in with their role in the present storyline. My impression is that the Eyes of Woden we've found here is some type of clandestine organization working on behalf of Woden.

In Norse mythology, Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn) are Odin's ravens. They gather information for Odin, and are sent out at dawn, returning in the evening. Hugin is "thought", and Munin is "memory".

Randomly, Tanais and Vanaheim are linked.

"On the south side of the mountains which lie outside of all inhabited lands runs a river through Svíþjóð, which is properly called by the name of Tanais [ Don River, Russia ], but was formerly called Tanakvísl, or Vanakvísl, and which falls into the Black Sea. The country of the people on the Vanakvísl was called Vanaland, or Vanaheimr; and the river separates the three parts of the world, of which the eastermost part is called Asia, and the westermost Europe."

More can be read here; http://help.com/wiki/1831188/vanaheim/

Apart from that, I'm pretty much stuck, too~
