Blatant trolling in MH forum

equal_opposite is not participating in good faith. Check the last few pages of this thread for illustrative examples:

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30826

Getting in people's face, quoting their posts and editing in statements about cocksucking, claiming not to know what a "troll" is and that they only found references to fishing when they googled it... yeah, obvious troll is looking pretty obvious right now.

Sent a PM to the user.

The basic rule of dealing with trolling is to simply ignore them. We, as moderators, can always tidy up the forums so no worries there either.

I think we should bring more attention back to Equal_Opposite, he's returned to his blatant trolling, this time in the Slender Man Mythos Forum. Several pages of the new EMH trailhead are clogged with his nonsense, something really should be done about him. Troll or not, he's become a problem.

Seconding TNC's point. equal_opposite is creating a huge problem. He is particularly trying to derail any sort of organization in the newly created EMH thread, once agin getting in others' faces and created another thread with the intent of spamming as well.
Additionally, you may have already covered this last time you contacted him, though he has, on multiple occasions, made false claims about other forum users he dislikes threatening to murder him.

Yeah now he is making threads spamming up the place with Lady Gaga and such.

Yeah, this needs looking at again. I know the policy is to ignore people like this but in my experience when people like this get away with their shenanigans without being banned they see that as an excuse to rack things up and push things a bit further, just to see how much they can get away with.

He clearly isn't interested in participating in the forum in good faith, what harm is done by banning him so we don't have his frivolous Lady Gaga cluttering up the place every time he decides to throw a shitfit?

Oh, and if that wasn't enough in his latest posts in the TribeTwelve thread he's just been yelling about how the mods should ban him and insulting Dav.

This person is an idiot and their presence brings no benefit to the forum.

The user was banned and I'm going through the threads and attempting to restore sanity. Just for your FYI.

Wow, that's some impressive work he's done there...

Sometimes I don't envy the work of forum admins, but will not hesitate in thanking them for the restoration of sanity and applauding their efforts.

This is probably a stupid question, but why weren't all of his topics either deleted or merged? Why leave all of them sitting there locked when they never contributed anyway?

The general rule is that we won't delete a post when someone has posted a reply. Doing so would put us dangerously close to the "thread police" level we are trying to avoid here.

We will delete a single post if it's a spam message with no replies.

We will also edit posts when necessary. For example: in this case equal had several posts which were huge pictures or quoting others and then repeating them over and over again in effort to crash the forum. Those posts were edited to preserve forum integrity.

Anything we do in terms of editing, deleting, locking, etc will always be accompanied by a post saying what we did. Again, this is in an effort to put YOU, the end user, at ease. I certainly wouldn't want to be a member of a community where the almighty moderators can come down on me if they didn't agree with my opinions. Why would we make this place the very thing we don't like?

And speaking of editing, we will never edit posts that state people's unhappiness with us as moderators or uF in general. That is an opinion and you are free to have it. Don't know why you would spend a ton of time at a place you hate but to each their own...

We have a very simple set of rules and more often than not they deal with the games (i.e. don't start a thread for your own game).

Personally, I didn't understood where this trolling attack came from. Equal had a brief history of instability yet when warned initially he made some very interesting posts and contributed to the SM community. And then this... The only thing I can think of is that he didn't take his medicine (and I'm being completely serious here). Allegations that other members were trying to kill him and the complete 180 turn he did in terms of character are indicative to me of a less-than-stable individual.

In any case this, too, has passed. Oh, and as a side-note: Moderators do not have the ability to ban users. This is reserved for the administrators of this board.

Hope this helps.

Remember equal_opposite?

Well, there's a new user called AnAppleFalls who's posting in his old haunts (the Slender Man and Marble Hornets forums) and is taking a similarly extremely confrontational and abusive tone with his posts.

It has been pointed out that "equal_opposite" and "An Apple Falls" are both references to Newton - the first is a reference to the laws of motion, the second a reference to the well-known story about how he got the idea to look into gravitation.

Possibly a mod or admin who can check out IP addresses can have a look and see if there's anything tying the one to the other. Given how spoofable IP addresses are this is hardly foolproof, but it's worth a look. In any event, it's stirring up a lot of ill feeling and it would seem appropriate for the mods and admins to keep an eye on the situation.

Completely off-topic, I know, but I just wanted to get this out there:

awakeasaurusrex, your avatar is unbelievably cute.

I may be new, but I can kinda tell you guys need more moderators to lock threads like these that just end up as trolls wimpering for food as they starve.

Also, I've no idea who this equal_opposite guy is, but based on what people have said, I can probably guess.

Who is this Equal_opposite? He sounds like a dashing fellow.

In case you didn't know, "Inflexion" and "Prism" would be your Newtonian link in the username.

Obvious sockpuppet is obvious.
