[SPEC/UPDATE?] Catbite Gorge What do you think caused The Gorge to be made?
I think it was a meteor crashlanding on PerplexPlanet which was actually the Receda Cube.
Maybe someone should email someone in PXC about it?

Catbite Gorge is definitely something we need to examine.
Here's the wiki page .
Daffy's PXC map has been updated recently with most of the Wave 4 cards depicting it.

from the decription in the wiki, it seems like theres alot we need to find out. especially about the ruins founf in the gorge, the wall art (cave paintings?) and anything else. how it was formed would also be a good thing to know. i find it very odd that it hasn't been brought up before. maybe this is where the third power is hiding out?
edit i just dropped an e-mail to kurt asking for a little more desription of the area, and of findings there in the past. waiting for a reply.

I've been wondering a lot about this since I saw it on the back of the cards. I suspect we'll be hearing something vital to do with it soon... have also emailed contacts asking for info.

Card #255 shows the edge of the gorge being close to Gillitt Road.
The blurb on the back of #256 says
Quote:
The Gorge
Several hundred metre wide, the Gorge was created in 0AC through an unknown disaster, destroying the majority of the city at the time
which suggests to me that even if Perplexians know how it was created, they aren't going to be very forthcoming with the details.

the unknown disaster would probably be the Catastrophe that marks the AC/BC divide. the cube was found in 7AC in catbite gorge, meaning that the cube probably has a lot to do with said catastrophe. the cube however predates its 'discovery' in 7AC, from what Miranda said re: the early Cube experiements at Viendenbourg detailed in the Granier diaries.
Current <spec> is that Adamek was creating the Cube in Viendenbourg, and they are mining the materials it was made from there. The cube is a weapon or something and created the catastrophe in 0AC, seemingly bombing the Old Town - i.e. where PerplexCity's most important buildings used to be - and the rest of the city only found out about the cube's existance when it was recovered in 7AC.
seems that Sente might be up to tricks in Viendenbourg again to create another one...</spec>
Which leaves the questions, who is behind it? is it the academy or the 3P? both times it has involved the master of the academy. secondly, why? for what purpose?

I find it strange that the buildings near the gorge have not been ether knocked down or repaired.
Secondly did any on note one of the roads in the derelict district is named kite way!

agreed. to me it looks like they've been bombed or damaged in whatever catastrophe created the gorge, but even so, neither new york or manchester after their relevant disasters, left their buildings in such a mess for 268 years... maybe they *want* to remember, but either way its bad morale for the city, explains why the old town is so bad at any rate.
the other thing is that the 'old town part 1' box out on the map seems to bring up discrepancies, it implies dereliction and disrepair rather than out right bombing - but is this just them covering up?

Neither New York or Manchester had cut all ties with everywhere else in the country though (are there any countries in PXC-land? Surely we need a nice continent name too) so there are significant economic and infrastructure differences. It depends on the mind-set of your perplexian I guess. There has been a lot of stuff about rejuvenating from an ecological point of view. Maybe the buildings take a lower priority? The gorge itself is memorial to any event.
Incidentally, why couldn't it have been a natural disaster? The lovely late reveal of that part of the map could be a herring rouge.
[EDIT] Something else has struck me as striking. That's a rubbish sentence. How would you get a gorge? Bloody great crater from some sort of explosion, yes; gorge, no.

could be from some dastardly scheme like lex luthor's in the first (and proper) superman film
admittedly - prime gorge-front real estate doesn't quite have the same ring to it...

You could create a gorge with some kind of landscape morphing gizmo. Like the Counterpoit game described by Kurt in his blog...

Wouldn't an earthquake create a gorge if the foundations were mined previously? It would be useful to see what condition the buildings are in - and whether flood, fire, subterranean collapse or other caused the destruction.
Perhaps Perplexians don't know what an earthquake is as by definition it can only exist on earth.
